About the Role

The Digital Communications Student will support the redevelopment of four museum, gallery and archives websites--Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery, Lambton Heritage Museum, Lambton County Archives, and the Oil Museum of Canada--as they transition from a shared website to individual online platforms. The primary objective of this position is to assist with web content creation, organization, and design to ensure each site reflects its unique identity while maintaining brand consistency.



The incumbent will help write and edit web content, source and format images, design graphics, and support user experience (UX) improvements. The student will contribute to creating engaging, accessible, and visually appealing websites that enhance public access to Lambton's cultural resources.



Job Duties and Responsibilities




Website Support:


Assist communications staff in the redevelopment of the museum and archives websites.

Edit and organize content for webpages, ensuring consistency in tone and visual style.

Format and upload text, images, and multimedia content within the website content management system.

Create basic graphics to support branding and enhance visual appeal.

Test site navigation, layout, and readability to support an intuitive user experience.

Ensure all website content meets accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).


Digital Content Development:


Review and update existing web materials to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Assist in organizing digital assets, including photography, graphics, and text files.

Provide input on user experience (UX/UI) design and functionality improvements.

Identify opportunities to enhance user engagement and interactivity within the websites.


General:


Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed

Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Formal Education


Currently enrolled in a marketing, communications, or web-based user experience (UX/UI) program at university or college.

Must be returning to school in upcoming school year.


Experience


Experience creating or maintaining web content or using a content management system (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) is an asset.

Familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) preferred.

An interest or knowledge of local history is an asset.
