Description
Reporting directly to the Communications Lead, Prairies & Territories, as part of our regional Brand and Promotions team, the Digital Communications Specialist (DCS) is a passionate, creative, well-versed, and analytical communications professional. In this role, you will work with a high-performing and nimble team of professionals who focus on elevating employee culture and communications across our region\'s many offices and promoting business and marketing best practices that support and drive long-term strategic goals. This role will be instrumental in shaping employee experiences, engaging external audiences, shifting behaviours, and driving business objectives through digital communications.
The DCS focuses on implementing our regional intranet and external digital marketing and public relations (PR) initiatives, capturing and telling engaging stories, and ensuring that our digital content is current, relevant, and accurate, and reaches our intended audiences to help drive change and optimize our communications return on investment (ROI). This role involves supporting the broader work of our Prairies & Territories Marketing and Communications team, including external digital communications and promotions initiatives. The DCS will play a critical role in driving employee engagement across our digital channels, as well as reaching targeted external audiences to help drive top line growth.
The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and editor who is able to influence and engage diverse audiences, a creative problem solver, and an independent self-starter who is comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams and with all levels of seniority within a complex organization.
Primary Role & Responsibilities:
Contribute to the day-to-day operation, content development, and management of the intranet, working closely with our regional Marketing and Communications team, as well as with the greater Marketing and PR teams.
Help drive employee engagement and discussion to create a sense of belonging within Stantec.
Maintain various communications channels to promote and distribute stories across Stantec (employee intranet, email newsletters, Teams, Yammer, etc.).
Help develop thoughtful and impactful content for proposals and strategic pursuits.
Turn technical content into compelling web posts for external audiences.
Edit technical write-ups, digital content, newsletters, and employee-facing articles.
Enhance employee brand experience and maintain a consistent brand voice across diverse external and internal digital channels.
Understand the value of each communications channel.
Track intranet usage and apply learnings to improve user experience.
Serve as a member of the larger intranet team for intranet-related queries, and support intranet requests from business partners.
Provide support to content owners ensuring they have the knowledge and tools required to manage their intranet content and drive a consistent approach.
Support the regional Marketing and Communications team as needed, including owning communications materials and strategies that support brand management, marketing, and business development initiatives.
Partner with marketing, communications, and PR colleagues to plan, implement, measure, and report on multi-channel (web, social, email, etc.) and multi-format (blog, video, webinars, eBooks, interactive, virtual events, etc.) digital communication campaigns.
Understand target audiences and develop appropriate engagement strategies leveraging multiple communication channels.
Serve as a strategic communications advisor in developing internal and external communications plans.
Support the development of the regional leadership communications.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Post-secondary degree in communications, PR, English, journalism, or marketing.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a content marketing, communications, PR, journalism, or professional writing role.

Fundamental understanding of the digital marketing landscape
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to tell brand stories and communicate complex, technical ideas in a way that engages diverse audiences
Proven ability to create content that positively impacts brand and enhances business objectives
Proficient with digital marketing systems, with a preference for enterprise systems such as Adobe Experience Manager, Marketo, and/or Hootsuite
Experience hosting webinars and digital events on commonly used platforms such as Teams
Proficient with digital marketing analytics platforms, such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, SEO tools, and others
Proven ability to use digital marketing data to inform digital strategy and communications tactics
Ability to collaborate effectively with creative professionals (writers, graphic designers, marketers, videographers) in a team environment, as well as to work autonomously
Experience presenting content and analytics to teams
Familiarity with photography and video production is considered an asset
Knowledge of the latest trends in the energy, environmental services, water, infrastructure, and buildings sectors is considered an asset
Understanding of marketing and promotional best practices and tactics and how digital content can enhance marketing and promotional campaigns
