Digital Advisor
for approximately 1 year.
Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing in the Faculty of Arts, the Digital Advisor contributes to maintaining and enhancing the online presence for the Faculty of Arts, its academic departments and units, and dozens of individual unit pages. The Coordinator is a communications and marketing professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for digital media.
A creative thinker and doer, the Digital Advisor builds web pages, advises department heads and faculty members on how to optimize web properties, writes and edits web content, maintaining and enhancing the Faculty of Arts communication SharePoint team website, manages uploading and redesign of existing online materials and creates an engaging and exceptional user experience.
The Advisor ensures that Faculty of Arts digital content and web design aligns with the university's digital strategy and that they maintain the brand identity and digital marketing standards of both the Faculty of Arts and the University of Calgary.
Strong web writing and technical skills; attention to detail; creativity; in-depth understanding of digital media, and a high level of professionalism and interpersonal communication skills are all critical to this role. The work requires the ability to manage multiple complex and deadline-oriented projects, and shifting priorities. It also requires adapting to additional duties as required and assigned.
This is a temporary, full-time position for approximately 1 year, 35 hours per week.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the communications team in building new webpages, implementing new functionality, making edits and recommending improvements on existing websites for the Faculty of Arts and its units and to contribute to creating and maintaining an outstanding online presence for the Faculty.
This includes the creation and implementation of content for website and unit webpages; planning and updating content across all web platforms; project management of unit webpages; advising department heads, faculty and staff on effective website design and functioning; planning and updating content on the SharePoint team website, and maintaining the brand identity and digital marketing standards of the Faculty and the University.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
(job functions include but are not limited to):
Create and deliver websites and associated unit webpages in the Faculty of Arts, which create an exceptional user experience for audiences and stakeholders.
Project manage a review of Faculty of Arts and unit websites.
Content editing for unit web spaces and SharePoint website; work with stakeholders/content experts to gather, write and/or edit required content.
Upload new web content including text, images and other web functions.
Write/edit/re-write content for websites, including assessing the content of department and unit websites/webpages;
Advise department web administrators and Department Heads/unit Directors on the organization of content and user experience to create effective digital communication tools and optimal user experiences.
Create site maps for website content, write and edit content, and advise project teams on incorporating digital technologies into websites.
Build and format pages in Drupal 8
Create new webpages, make structural refinements to existing websites/pages including testing, evaluation and implementation of new web technologies
Create appropriate visual assets for web pages (e.g. banners, online images, etc.).
Advise website administrators within faculty departments of the functional capabilities of the website.
Coach and train department and unit website administrators in the faculty on using redeveloped websites.
Ensure websites align with the digital strategy and maintain brand and identity standards.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Undergraduate degree or diploma in marketing, communications, digital media, information design, computing or a related field.
Knowledge and 1-3 years experience in creating and managing content architecture for websites.
Experience working with Drupal 8; website administration and familiarity with Google analytics is required.
Experience working with SharePoint team websites required.
Excellent web writing and editing skills.
Excellent project management skills.
Knowledge of design principles, including an understanding of user journey mapping, and best practices for web design and user experience.
Experience producing visual components for the web; ability to configure and manipulate images for the web.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated judgement and attention to detail.
Experience with design and layout tools such as Adobe CS (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
Demonstrated abilities for innovation and problem-solving.
Ability to effectively manage multiple complex tasks and competing priorities, to meet short deadlines, and maintain the highest standards of quality and attention to detail.
Ability to grasp and learn new technologies; interest in remaining at the forefront of trends and technologies; willingness to experiment with new ideas and tools.
