This is a full-time position; 35 hours per week, commencing as soon as possible.
The Digital Access to Justice Court Support Case Manager, under the direction of the Executive Director and Manager of Justice Services, will primarily be responsible for acting as an advocate for clients within the community.
This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care and support in consultation with the client. This position will also respect and protect the rights of clients.
The primary function of the Digital Access to Justice Court Support Case Manager will be to work with clients in Barrie, Orillia, Bracebridge, Midland, Gravenhurst, Collingwood, and Bradford who require support attending virtual case management and plea courts, requesting disclosure, facilitating and supporting connections with Legal Aid Ontario, Duty Counsel and private counsel.
Please note that this position includes opportunities for outreach into rural and remote communities in the Simcoe and Muskoka region. As such, it is additionally part of this position to build relationships and the capacity to support individuals in these areas navigate their criminal court matters.
Additionally, this role is part of a collaborative team which connects individuals to appropriate services, provides guidance and maintains regular contact to ensure that individuals are supported and connected as they navigate the criminal justice system.
Salary: $23/hour
Contract Term: 1 year.
The John Howard Society of Simcoe and Muskoka is seeking a motivated individual for this role who will work as part of a small team to lead and drive effective outcomes for community members.
Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals and families involved with the criminal justice system.
Post-secondary education in a Human Services and/or Criminal Justice related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Responsibilities:
Liaise with Crown Attorneys, Duty Counsel, court staff, interpreters, community partners, private counsel, support workers, etc.
Request disclosure, assist with legal aid applications, connect clients with duty counsel and/or private counsel
Support and record the progress of each client and prepare reports for court accordingly
Create, maintain and organize client files
Input statistical data and case notes into client database
Assist in arranging referrals to community resources for clients who require support
Direct individuals and families to available social services and resources within the community to assist with the resolution of social and personal problems
Act as an advocate for client groups within the community
Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care and support in consultation with individuals and their families
Respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, religion, and culture; and their right to privacy and dignity
Provide a consistently high standard of care and support for clients
Provide direct and comprehensive care and assistance to clients with specialized and complex needs
Ensure commitment to quality, client safety, and risk management initiatives
Provide ongoing advocacy and support to clients
Demonstrate cooperation among other staff members in order to ensure efficiency of care and support for clients
Work with program participants one-on-one to explore recovery, health and housing needs and help connect them with community supports and services.
Prepare and submit accurate reports and records
HIFIS input and documentation
Front line day to day activies in the office
Facilitate Digital Access to Justice Clinics across Simcoe & Muskoka communities
Other general tasks and responsibilities as needed.
