Summary

The Dewatering Test Work Specialist is responsible for mobilization, operation, analysis, demobilization, and reporting of dewatering tests performed on mining and industrial application samples. Primary activities include Thickener, Clarifier, Inclined Plate Setting, Pressure Filtration and Vacuum Filtration test work, with opportunity to support in many other areas of testing when primary activities are not in demand. The Dewatering Test Work Specialist supports the Dewatering Testing Team Manager in the execution of dewatering test work on time, on budget and within scope. Also responsible for assisting and supporting in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and continual development in health and safety protocols in the Testing Facility/Center.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mobilization/demobilization and operating dewatering test work equipment accordingly to Metso Outotec procedures and standards.
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the Testing Facility/Center.
  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, construction and calibrating testing equipment as necessary to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Performing on-site client testing campaigns where and when required.
  • Guide and mentor new testing team Interns or Hires.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dewatering Testing Team Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Travel

Frequent domestic and possibly international travel may be required at times; up to 50-75%

Qualifications

Education/Training:
  • Relevant degree from an accredited college, university, or technical school. (Mining or Chemical Engineering Preferred.)
  • CSA and/or CCIL laboratory testing certifications an asset.
Experience:
  • 1+ years of experience in laboratory testing.
  • Experience in the mining industry an asset.
  • Knowledge and practical work experience in laboratory testing a must.

  • Ability to work in a discreet manner, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to Travel.
Essential Physical Job Functions and Work Environment
  • Regularly required to remain in a stationary position, position self around testing equipment, operate testing equipment, and communicate with team members
  • Regularly required to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffolds, mobile equipment
  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Must have the ability to manipulate 50lb buckets onto test equipment at a height from 1-4 ft and remove onto a skid or lifting aid for transportation
  • Must be able to observe testing equipment and identify required adjustments
