Position Overview

We're looking for a Development Manager to support our growing development team at Paper Leaf. This is a people-focused leadership role designed to keep our team supported and guided. You'll be a steady presence for your direct reports, helping them stay on track with their deliverables, navigate challenges, and continue progressing in their careers. You'll report to the Development Director and participate in department-level discussions.

Enjoy mentoring developers and helping them grow Have experience managing or leading developers (formally or informally) Can communicate clearly with developers, PMs, and clients Are comfortable reviewing code at a high level and offering guidance Understand modern PHP development (Laravel, WordPress, Statamic, React Native) Are steady under pressure and bring a calm, supportive presence Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools
Experience working on cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

Team support and people leadership + Lead regular 1:1s with your reports
+ Provide coaching, guidance, and clarity on work expectations
+ Support career development and performance management
+ Help maintain a collaborative team environment
Technical oversight + Review code periodically to help developers stay aligned with standards
+ Support developers in mapping out technical approaches or breaking down work
+ Flag potential issues early to help guide developers toward solutions
+ Work with our Development Director on questions related to quality, security, or standards
Department collaboration + Contribute to department discussions and decision making
+ Support the Development Director with process improvements when capacity allows

Requirements

1-2 years of formal people management experience OR strong mentorship and leadership as a senior developer 3+ years working with Laravel and/or PHP-based systems Experience building or supporting WordPress or Statamic projects Comfortable guiding developers through technical decisions
Located in Canada

This is a remote-first, full-time, salaried position at an expected range of $80,000-$95,000 per year, dependent on candidate experience.
