The Opportunity:

The Development Coordinator position is a split position balancing the needs of the Volunteer Department and Fund Development. You will work to instill a culture of volunteering at the Y while fulfilling the volunteer needs of each department and working closely with both staff and volunteers to ensure a valuable experience exists for both. This position will also support Fund Development by researching, identifying and applying for funding opportunities in support of the Annual Strong Communities Campaign, Capital Projects, and other community development initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Seek and attend community events to promote volunteering at the Y and increase awareness of the Y within the community.
  • Collect and file appropriate volunteer records. Maintain and update volunteer database.
  • First point of contact for all new volunteers and interview potential volunteers for suitability and fit.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through local businesses and organizations by attending staff meetings, member meetings, providing facility tours and distributing promotional materials.
  • Provide training and support for staff, facilitators and volunteers.
  • Researching and writing volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Liaising with departments to understand how they work, develop and assess their volunteering needs.
  • Generating appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the departments.
  • Monitoring, supporting, motivating and accrediting volunteers and their work.
  • Celebrating volunteerism by nominating volunteers for awards and organizing celebration events.
  • Coordinating National Volunteer Appreciation week events.
  • Coordinate the ordering and distribution of uniforms and maintain inventory.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Support the Annual Campaign by assisting where needed to meet annual goals.
  • Use and management of the Grant Connect Platform.
  • Research and identify grant funding opportunities ie. Private Foundations, Government, Corporate.
  • Work with the fundraising team to complete grant applications and proposals.
  • Preparing and submitting funding reports to funders.
  • Maintain strong records in Donor Database Raisers Edge on funder interactions.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team and with external vendors.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent documentation and filing needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Exceptional communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills.
  • Experience in designing and writing grants and proposals is an asset.
  • Experience in creating and organizing events is an asset.
  • Worked or volunteered in a non-profit setting is an asset.
