Job Summary

The Developer Performance Analytics is responsible for supporting the Network Operations team by performing ad hoc analysis, developing automated reports and fully functioning software tools to drive business objectives. The role provides technical expertise on CN data, including train, car, and locomotive movement, existing data city operating measures, and developing new measures as required. Moreover, the incumbent works closely with business users to identify requirements and collaborates on technical approaches to quickly fulfill business needs. The role takes full responsibility of assigned deliverables and focus on key tasks in order to deliver as per service commitment.

Main Responsibilities

Tool and Report Development

\xc2\xb7 Develop high quality code to simplify long-term maintenance and iterative development processes

\xc2\xb7 Develop custom tools, websites and automated reports using reporting software and tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects)

\xc2\xb7 Work directly with end users to understand high-level goals and processes to shape the requirements to best meet their needs

Ad hoc Analysis

\xc2\xb7 Develop strong data mining techniques to answer specific questions from Network Operations or other groups

\xc2\xb7 Provide insight based on the data, along with recommendations of course of action

\xc2\xb7 Prepare trend analysis

Measure Development

\xc2\xb7 Understand CN\'s Key Operating Metrics, along with the processes used in their creation to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME)

\xc2\xb7 Prototype new measures, developing the business rules and outputs

\xc2\xb7 Work with Information and Technology (I&T) to implement changes to measures and I&T supported system

Data Expertise

\xc2\xb7 Provide expertise on CN Data, reports and measures

\xc2\xb7 Support internal and external users of CN Data

\xc2\xb7 Explain the suite of reports to the group supports

\xc2\xb7 Point to existing reports for new requests of similar scope

\xc2\xb7 Understand how measures are calculated and processed, and how they interact based on historical trends

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress.

Experience

Information and Technology

\xc2\xb7 Between 2 to 3 years of experience as a Developer in a Network Operations support role

o Experience in railway operations*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

\xc2\xb7 Bachelor\'s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Logistics

\xc2\xb7 Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of software development (e.g., VBA)

\xc2\xb7 Advanced level skills in Structured Query Language (SQL)

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Python, R, database development (e.g., Transact-SQL and PL/SQL), and the Service Reliability System (SRS)*

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML) and Visual Studio *

*Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
