Job Summary
At the heart of our work is an interdisciplinary approach that delivers holistic, community-based care - with a strong focus on individuals who experience barriers to accessing health services. Reporting to the Manager, Dental Health Programs, and accountable to the Senior Director of Clinical Programs, the denturist will be responsible for providing a range of denture services to clients who are missing some or all of their teeth including assessments, design, fabrication, fitting and follow up to provide denture solutions. The role works collaboratively with the dental team to ensure comprehensive oral health care.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides a range of denture services including but not limited to: oral assessments, denturist diagnosis, impressions, topical anaesthetic, fabrication and insertion of removable partial or full dentures, repairs, additions, tissue conditioning, problem solving if client has challenges adapting to dentures, adjustments of removable dentures, and mouthguard fabrication
Responsible for fabrication of dental prosthetic appliance process in conjunction with lab
Supports referrals and triage to appropriate specialists and urgent care providers based on clinical findings and maintains referral pathways with dental and medical providers
Completes all documentation and record keeping in accordance with LAMP policies and procedures, and current professional standards set by the CDO
Performs routine practices and additional precautions according to current infection control guidelines as per CDO guidelines and IPAC guidelines
Participates in oral health promotion, presentations, outreach, advocacy, community education, and resource development as directed
Some evenings, weekends, and local travel may be required
Required Qualifications
Graduate of a recognized Denturism program and registered in good standing with the College of Denturists of Ontario
Three years' experience working with priority populations, children and/or seniors with extensive experience in providing a wide range of denture services
Knowledge and competence in current clinical techniques, and procedures including the interpretation of client medical histories, diagnosis through visual examination, denturist services, and infection control measures
Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs including the Ontario Seniors Dental Care program (OSDCP) and the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), and working in a community dental clinic or a public health environment an asset
Knowledge of Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation and regulations such as the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), CDO Practice Standards and Code of Ethics, Occupational Health and Safety Act
Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental and culturally competent care to vulnerable populations focusing on diversity and inclusion
Experience in health promotion, dental outreach, and oral health advocacy activities would be an asset
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas in order to communication effectively across all levels of the organization
