Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Dental Health Programs, and accountable to the Senior Director of Clinical Programs, the Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) will be responsible for providing a range of dental hygiene clinical services, performing extra/intra oral assessments, dental hygiene diagnosis, formulating, implementing, and evaluating treatment plans, informing/obtaining consent from clients and families, liaising with community partners and external stakeholders to promote oral health and access to dental services, and ensure adherence of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) standards, and LAMP's policies.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides a range of clinical dental preventive services basic including but not limited to: intra/extra oral assessments, radiographs as prescribed, impression, topical anaesthetic, sealants, scaling, polishing, therapeutic treatment, laser treatment, and oral hygiene instruction in a culturally safe manner and by following anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks when engaging clients
Obtains comprehensive client medical history and verifies/applies medical history prior to dental hygiene treatment, consulting with dentists, specialists, and physicians as required
Completes all documentation and record keeping in accordance with LAMP policies and procedures, and current professional standards set by the CDHO
Performs complete oral assessments, establishes dental hygiene diagnosis, provides client education, and formulates comprehensive preventive treatment plans, and obtains informed consent for treatment
Provides patient education and prevention, including oral hygiene instruction, and daily oral hygiene care to clients, families and caregivers
Participates in oral health promotion, presentations, outreach, advocacy, community education, and resource development as directed
Some evenings, weekends, and local travel may be required
Required Qualifications
Registered in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, and eligible to practice dental hygiene in Ontario
Three years' experience working with priority populations, seniors and/or children with recent experience and extensive experience in providing a wide range of dental hygiene services
Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs including the Ontario Seniors Dental Care program (OSDCP) and the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), and working in a community dental clinic or a public health environment an asset
An understanding legislation such as the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and safe work practices
Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental and culturally competent care to vulnerable populations focusing on diversity and inclusion
Demonstrate reliability, the ability to multi-task, and work under flexible conditions
Experience in health promotion, dental outreach, and oral health advocacy activities would be an asset
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas in order to communication effectively across all levels of the organization
