invites applications for a

DEF Project Coordinator

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


The Diagnostic Evaluation Facility is a BSL-2 facility located in the URC Research Centre at the Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) - UCalgary physical interface. This allows projects to operate under UCalgary's ethics, biosafety, and IP umbrella, while maintaining patient samples and data in the custody of APL. The DEF Project Coordinator will work closely with the PI and Senior research staff to provide project coordination for the facility. The DEF Project Coordinator will serve as the main point of contact for ACAD's Diagnostic Evaluation Facility, helping coordinate activities and manage relationships with internal and external partners. The position will also be responsible for meetings with facility users and presentation of results to key stakeholders. The DEF Project Coordinator will also provide guidance for junior team members including undergraduate interns and graduate students, as well as visiting scientists. The DEF Project Coordinator will also help coordinate advertising and engagement activities throughout ACAD's various programs.


Typical full-time working hours are Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with some flexibility required based on the availability of the highly specialized research equipment.

Reports to the ACAD Director and Associate Professor.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Act as primary point of contact for all facility users. Act as primary point of contact for all required maintenance and operations needs of the facility. Responsible for project management of all facility projects. Solely responsible for providing project consultations, progress meetings, and results presentations to end users of the facility as well as funding partners. Provide guidance for junior team members including undergraduate interns and graduate students, as well as visiting scientists utilizing the facility. Communicate directly with SMEs seeking evaluation work within our BSL2 space. Identify solutions for issues arising in the facility. Attend and participate in laboratory meetings and professional development activities as directed by the senior research staff. Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe. Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers and immediate supervisor. Manage own time effectively and ensure immediate manager is kept informed daily/weekly of activities, progress of work, and any issues that require attention. Demonstrate strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines. Keep ACAD social media sites up to date with new events and exciting research updates. Represent ACAD at national and international conferences as needed. Help coordinate APEX Access (an ACAD program) events with the ACAD Director and APEX Access board.

Qualifications / Requirements:



A master's degree in science. Strong verbal and written communication abilities, essential for effective collaboration within cross-functional teams, clear project documentation, and concise reporting is required. Thorough understanding of safety protocols, risk management, and adherence to biosafety regulations is required. Proven track record in product development, showcasing the ability to take concepts from ideation to realization, while incorporating innovation and practicality, is required. Experience with quality management systems is required. A strong background in communicating and engaging with industry partners and end users. Experience with advertising and social media engagement for an academic or commercial organization is required. Experience with pre-clinical validation is an asset.
Experience with the FDA pre-submission process is an asset.
