Axium Packaging has an immediate opening for an experienced Deco Mechanic at our Mississauga location.
The Deco Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing decorative printing and coating equipment used in the production process. This position ensures all decorative (deco) machinery operates at optimal performance levels to meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on decorative printing, coating, and related mechanical systems (e.g., offset printers, UV ovens, curing units, conveyors, etc.).
Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and minor electrical issues on production equipment and implement corrective actions.
Conduct changeovers, setup, and adjustments of deco equipment to meet product specifications and schedules.
Read and interpret blueprints, machine manuals, schematics, and work orders.
Work closely with production operators and engineers to reduce downtime and improve line efficiency.
Document maintenance activities, parts usage, and repairs performed.
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety, environmental, and GMP regulations.
Assist in continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and suggesting long-term solutions.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance and production areas.
Qualifications:
Degree or technical certification preferred.
2+ years of experience working with mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment, preferably in printing, coating, or decorating operations.
Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical systems.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
Ability to read schematics, drawings, and manuals.
Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed.
Preferred Experience (Optional):
Experience with specific brands of decorating machinery (e.g., Polytype, Belvac, Mall+Herlan).
Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and basic programming.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or TPM principles.
