We think innovatively and strategically to solve business problems and strive to move our business forward with practical, integrated processes and tools that ensure organizational success.As the Decision Support Specialist, you will be a strategic business partner who applies comprehensive knowledge of the business performance drivers of financial risk and return to identify areas for improvement. You will create innovative solutions and present them to senior business partners. You will provide mentorship to less senior Financial Analysts, coaching them in their research and analysis functions.How you will create impact:

  • Evaluate the business financial condition by designing and applying specific modeling techniques. This involves applying advanced insight in determining relevant key performance drivers to analyze the level of risk and return. Coaches less senior Financial Analysts in their analysis. Develops budget, forecast, and multi-year plans. While investigating performance results, challenges business partners to determine root causes, and maintains focus on identifying ways to improve the short-term and long-term financial outlook.
  • Contribute to business case template development and supports management in unique and complex business case development. Also coaches less senior Financial Analysts in business case analysis.
  • Research best practices and analyzes competitive, economic, and regulatory environment to identify complex issues and advantages. Enhances internal partnerships (e.g. marketing, financial peers across the group of companies) to create innovative solutions and ensure competitive information is relevant and translated into context for business decisions. Mentors less senior Financial Analysts in research techniques.
  • Recommend highly developed short-term and long-term solutions for improved performance. This is achieved through delivery of effective presentations to senior business partners, with content tailored to the audience. Employs appropriate tools and visuals (charts, graphs, trends) to illustrate a creative interpretation of high-level information, and articulate feasible alternatives and recommended action.
  • Under the guidance of more senior Financial leadership, negotiates with business partners to translate solutions into action items, ensuring they are incorporated into strategic planning and budget processes, and strives to influence and gain commitment on deadlines. Documents these commitments.
  • Provide leadership in the development and documentation of departmental processes and procedures, including efficiency improvements.

To join our team:
  • You have a university degree in a business-related discipline with some post-secondary education specializing in business or accounting.
  • You have or are near completion of CA/CGA/CMA designation program, or equivalent advanced business education (e.g. MBA with a financial specialization).
  • You have 4 years financial experience.
  • You have a comprehensive, in-depth understanding of insurance industry, and specific business area operations.
