We just introduced our public speaking/debate program, which teaches students how to be persuasive advocates, thought leaders, and dynamic students in the classroom and beyond.

BLUBC Education Consulting is recruiting motivated, dedicated individuals to coach Public Speaking and Debate classes. The candidate ought to have experience coaching Public Speaking and Debate.

Responsibilities () ?



Design and implement a comprehensive

Public Speaking & Debate

curriculum for students at different levels, ensuring engagement and academic growth. Help students understand the public speaking and debate format and improve their public speaking and debate skills. Help students prepare for public speaking and debate competitions when necessary. Teach public speaking and debate to various students from G3-G12 and adults if needed, providing effective instruction and support for their educational paths. Regularly assess and track students' progress, providing feedback and updates to both students and supervisors. Conduct demo class sessions to showcase the excellence of our Debate program and contribute to student recruitment efforts. Mark and examine students' homework, offering constructive feedback to enhance their learning outcomes. Demonstrate flexibility in working evenings and weekends to accommodate students' schedules. Possess the ability to commute to different class locations as needed. Strong critical thinking and communication skills are essential in effectively teaching public speaking and debate to students.

Qualifications/Requirements:



Willingness to offer in-person teaching is strongly preferred. Classroom Management: Demonstrated ability to create a positive and well-managed classroom environment that encourages active student engagement and fosters a passion for Debate courses. Experience with Students: Enjoyment in working with students of all ages, from junior high to high school, and possess the skills to tailor teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Teaching Experience: A minimum of three years of teaching experience in public speaking and/or debate. Candidates should have a proven track record of being a public speaking and/or a debate coach and facilitating student success. Knowledge of Debate Competition: Familiarity with NSDA, NHSDLC etc. and experience preparing students for the Debate Competitions. Passion for Education: Dedication to education and a genuine passion for being a public speaking and debate Coach, inspiring students to explore the subject further and excel in their academic pursuits.

Key Competencies/skills:


-Understand debate tournaments for junior high and high school students hosted in Canada, as well as the substance and method of debate tournaments, and investigate the subjects of each year. (For example, Senior High Canadian National Debating Championships, Junior High Canadian National Debating Championships, etc.)
-Coaching experience at the basic and expert levels, as well as a variety of genres and events
-Enthusiasm, enthusiasm, and a can-do attitude
-Dedicated to education and teaching
-Instruct basic and advanced delivery skills
-Coach students in a variety of speech formats

Qualifications:


-BA in Communication Studies, Education, Drama or related fields; MA a plus
-Ability to create a fun and supportive environment
-Enjoy working with students of all ages
-Public speaking or debating experience is an asset
-Minimum two years of experience in teaching or coaching public speaking, and debate in schools, colleges or corporations

Job Type: Contract
Contract length: 24 months

Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour

Do you live in Vancouver, or in an area close to UBC / 2083 Alma Street? About half of the courses require in-person teaching, as parents prefer students to meet coaches face-to-face for better results. Therefore, we need coaches who are able to spend roughly half of their time teaching at our classroom.
Education:

Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
Experience:

public speaking / debating coaching: 3 years (preferred)
