SuOn Academy is an Ontario Ministry of Education-inspected private high school offering Grades 9-12.
In addition to our day-school academic programs, SuOn Academy operates an Academic Learning Centre that provides structured academic and communication skills support for our high school students.
We are seeking a
G9-12 Public Speaking Instructor
to lead our communication and presentation skills program for senior students.
Program Overview: Public Speaking (Grades 9-12)
This program helps high school students build essential communication skills through:
Speech structure and organization
Voice projection and clarity
Presentation techniques
Debate fundamentals
Persuasive communication
Confidence in public speaking environments
Preparation for school assessments and future university/professional presentations
Sessions take place in small groups in a school-based learning environment or online.
Position Summary
The Public Speaking Instructor will guide students through structured communication activities designed to strengthen presentation skills, language clarity, and confidence when speaking in academic or public settings.
Responsibilities
Teach key public speaking skills using SuOn Academy's program framework
Lead structured practices, group discussions, and presentation workshops
Provide individualized feedback to help students improve clarity, delivery, and organization
Support students in preparing speeches, presentations, and school-related communication tasks
Maintain a professional and encouraging classroom atmosphere
Communicate student progress with the Academic Learning Centre coordinator
Participate in occasional planning or training sessions
Qualifications
Required:
Strong proficiency in English oral communication and presentation skills
Ability to guide high school students effectively and confidently
Clear and professional communication style
University degree (or current student) in English, Communications, Education, Linguistics, Drama, or related fields
Preferred:
Experience leading workshops, presentations, or speaking programs for teens
Familiarity with Ontario high school communication/literacy expectations
Experience supporting multilingual or international students
Background in debate, drama, speech competitions, Model UN, or related activities
