We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Debate Coach to support our Grade 5-8 students in developing strong debate and public speaking skills. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about empowering young learners to think critically, speak confidently, and collaborate effectively
The Debate Coach will guide students through weekly practices, prepare them for competitions, and inspire both new and experienced debaters to reach their potential. This is a part-time, hourly position with flexible scheduling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and lead weekly debate practices for students in Grades 5-8.
Teach debate structure, research methods, case-building, rebuttal strategies, and effective public speaking techniques.
Provide constructive feedback to students on their debate performance and communication skills.
Prepare teams for local and regional tournaments; accompany students to competitions as needed.
Act as a judge at debate events when required.
Communicate clearly and professionally with students, staff, and parents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Communications, Political Science, or related field (or currently enrolled in postsecondary studies).
Previous experience in debate (high school, university, or coaching level) is required.
Knowledge of debate formats (e.g., British Parliamentary, Canadian National Debate Federation styles) is an asset.
Strong ability to mentor, motivate, and connect with middle school students.
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
