The Faculty of Science at CUE offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including:

Master of Science in Information Technology Bachelor of Environmental Health (After Degree) - one of only six programs in Canada preparing students to become Environmental Health Officers/Public Health Inspectors 3- and 4-year programs in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Information Technology (4-year only), and Mathematics



Program Highlights:



Accredited 4-year Chemistry program (Canadian Society for Chemistry) Biology program with emphases in Cell & Molecular Biology and Integrative Biology Environmental Science program emphasizing Environmental Assessment and Remediation Graduates eligible for professional memberships in the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (Biology) and Association of the Chemical Profession of Alberta (Chemistry)

Role Summary:



The Dean, Science provides strategic leadership for all academic, research, and administrative functions within the Faculty. The Dean will ensure the Faculty's programs are innovative, sustainable, and aligned with the University's mission while fostering excellence in teaching, research, and service.




Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President Academic, the Dean, Science will implement the academic and administrative policies and decisions of the university to achieve strategic goals and objectives. The successful candidate will promote a high standard of teaching, research, and community service in the context of collaborative teamwork and the growing diversity of faculty, staff, and students.




Key Responsibilities:




Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of academic programs, research initiatives, and administrative functions Foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence among faculty, staff, and students Champion faculty research and ensure relevance to industry and community needs Build and maintain partnerships with government, industry, academic institutions, and community organizations Act as an ambassador for the Faculty and University, promoting CUE's reputation and mission Participate as a member of senior management, providing leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making support Lead a diverse, inclusive, and changing environment, promoting teamwork and engagement


Required Qualifications:




PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with a strong record of teaching, research, and academic leadership at the rank of Associate or Full Professor is required. Minimum five years of progressive academic management experience in a science discipline, including program development, review, and renewal is required. Demonstrated success in scholarship, research, mentorship, and administration is required. Proven ability to build internal and external partnerships, including with government and industry is required. Strong leadership, management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to collaboration and inclusion is required. Strategic planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills is required. Commitment to student success and faculty development is required. Ability to pass a clear criminal record check is required. Knowledge of Concordia University of Edmonton's culture, challenges, and strategic priorities is preferred. Experience promoting faculty research, innovation, and community engagement initiatives is preferred.


Working Conditions:




Office environment: long periods of sitting and monitor usage. Long periods of traveling may be required. Attending events: long periods of standing and talking.
