Career Opportunity - Dean of Residence

St John's College, located on the University of Manitoba campus, is looking for a Dean of Residence with strong people and organizational skills. St John's College Residence provides comfortable and secure accommodation for one hundred full-time students during the academic year and for summer students and conference clients during May to August. The Dean of Residence is responsible for the overall recruitment, supervision, and operation of the residence. They must be able to relate well to students and be sensitive and accommodating to students of all cultures and backgrounds.

Responsibilities



1) Oversees the Dons team, and with the team is responsible for the day-to-day life, security, and safety of all residents

2) Working with the Marketing and Communications Officer, Registrar, and other members of Administrative team, the Dean of Residence is responsible for recruiting and retaining Residents and making every effort to ensure the Residence is operating at maximum capacity

3) Provides and facilitates ongoing educational programming for the students, particularly the Dons team

4)The Dean meets with individual residents, as necessary, to address issues of distress and/or personal concern (ie., attempted suicide, self-harm, sexual assault, physical abuse) and liaises with appropriate campus units and supports (case management) to ensure access to all available resources. The Dean acts in a supportive role and/or as a point of referral to appropriate services

5) Supports the College's ongoing commitment to Reconciliation, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)

6) Deals with discipline issues as they arise

7) Responsible for monitoring the physical state of the residence, and reporting maintenance issues to the Facilities Coordinator

8) Responsible for administration of the residence including applications, letters of offer, contracts, and room assignments

9) Contributes to the life of the College through recruitment, orientation, and advocacy work on behalf of residence students

Qualifications



1) Undergraduate degree (Background in social work, education, or residence life will be considered an asset)

2) Excellent communication skills

3) Enjoys interacting with students and parents

4) Demonstrated leadership, planning, facilitation and supervisory skills

5) Demonstrated team building skills
