One of our Government clients is looking for a Database Administrator (Exp in Mainframe environment)
Length: Contract term is 12 months, with high possibility extensions
Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid (3 times a week in office)

DESCRIPTION
The client is seeking the services of a Database Administrator, Senior Level, to work on Maintenance & Support (M&S) Key Applications - Mainframe Database Maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support on preparation, installation, configuration and user test of mainframe z/OS, IMS and DB2 version upgrade:

o Review IBM documentation on upgrade for the most current hardware requirements, software requirements, prerequisites, and installation information
o Review the service that has been applied to the current system. Determine if critical service has been included in the new IMS release. If not, acquire the appropriate service for the new release.
o Review the functions and enhancements for the new version.
o Determine the availability of updates to IBM IMS and DB2\xc2\xae Tools, aids, and related products.
o Assess the impact of version upgrade to the existing IMS to DB2 Driver mirroring program and provide mitigation if required.
o Prepare a migration / test plan.
o Prepare a fallback plan. Review and update fallback plan with peers to ensure completeness.
o Backup IMS and DB2 databases before upgrade.
o Test IMS utilities.
o Follow up any problem related to version upgrade.
o Conduct analysis on the performance of transactions and batch jobs before and after the upgrade.

• Systems maintenance release development

o Work with development, architecture and BA teams to review requirements for IMS/DB2 database change
o Design IMS/DB2 database change according to requirements, review with stakeholders and implement in different mainframe regions according to release schedule
o Develop compression/uncompressing program
o Develop program to load initial seed data
o Support development and testing

• IMS/DB2 to Oracle replication

o Assess the impact of maintenance release IMS/DB2 database change to the existing IMS/DB2 to Oracle replication program
o Enhance Information Builders Inc. IMS Data Replicator (IDR) program to include new IMS/DB2 database change introduced by maintenance release
o Support testing of IMS/DB2 to Oracle replication

• IMS Transaction Manager and IMS/DB2 database administration.

o Support IMS maintenance level update
o Optimization of IMS transactions and batch jobs to have better response time
o Support on MTO IMS user exits in Assembler
o Support IMS log extraction to fulfill Freedom of Information (FOI) request
o Maintenance of DB2 mirror for Driver data
o Monitor the health of IMS transaction by analyzing IMS log and trace, IMS DB, batch job, DB2 database, space usage, CPU utilization, connectivity for DBMS and Transaction, security alerts.
o Information request/data request/FOI fulfillment
o IMS/DB2 trouble shooting and performance tuning
o Support Disaster Recovery of IMS and DB2 data

SKILL SET REQUIREMENTS:

• Extensive hands-on experience in the use of z/OS and related software packages and tools
• Extensive experience with large-scale IMS and DB2 database systems development, capacity planning, performance tuning and database administration technology
• Extensive experience with administration of IMS Transaction Management
• Extensive experience with analysis and troubleshooting with IMS Log, trace and DUMP
• Extensive experience with analysis and troubleshooting with DB2 monitoring tools and statistics reports
• Experience with disaster recovery in z/OS, IMS DB/DC and DB2
• Experience with contributing to mainframe application development.
• Experience with mainframe development, PL/I, Cobol, and Assembler.
• Expert experience in implementing IDR in a high volume, mission critical mainframe environment
• Experience with IMS/DB2 to Oracle replication
