We perform acoustic consulting, field monitoring and data analysis services. Our work encompasses all stages of environmental reviews and assessments of underwater noise. We work with regulatory, oil and gas, marine construction, energy, fisheries, transport, and defence sectors. Data Infrastructure Technologist

in our Dartmouth, NS (Woodside) location.

Position Overview



We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Infrastructure Technician to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Lead Data Infrastructure Technologist, you will be instrumental in the daily operation, maintenance, and support of our critical data systems. You will be involved in managing and maintaining 8+ PB (and growing) of live and archived data and 12+ on-premise multi-core processing and storage servers as well as 12+ servers hosted in the cloud. This role is responsible for the foundational tasks that ensure the reliability and performance of our on-premise and cloud infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities



System Monitoring: Actively monitor the health, performance, and security of our servers, storage arrays, and cloud environments, responding to alerts and escalating issues as needed. Linux Administration: Perform Linux system administration tasks, including user account management, permissions, package installation, and system patching. JIRA & Application Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for JIRA support, managing user accounts, configuring projects, and troubleshooting user-reported issues. Infrastructure Maintenance: Assist with the physical installation, configuration, and maintenance of server and storage hardware in our data centre. Backups and Recovery: Manage and verify our data backup systems, perform test restores, and assist in executing disaster recovery procedures. User & Technical Support: Provide timely and effective support to our internal science and engineering teams for infrastructure-related requests. Documentation: Create and maintain clear, concise technical documentation for our systems, processes, and support procedures. Scripting & Automation: Assist in developing and maintaining shell scripts to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.

Required Education, Qualifications and Experience



Post-secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 2+ years of experience in an IT support, Network Administrator, or Junior System Administrator role. Solid foundation in Linux administration (Debian/Ubuntu, Rocky) and comfort working extensively on the command line. Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls). Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues methodically. Strong communication skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset. A genuine passion for technology and a strong desire to learn and grow your skills.

Desired (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications



Direct experience administering Atlassian tools, particularly JIRA and Confluence. Familiarity with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OVH). Experience with scripting languages for automation (e.g., Bash, Python). Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, VMware). Exposure to containerization technologies like Docker. Exposure to high performance computing job schedulers (Grid Engine, Slurm, Azure) Familiarity with high-density storage solutions and filesystems like ZFS.
