Location:

8 Moore Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Position:

Permanent Full-Time- Afternoon Shift

Reporting:

District Equipment Manager

Hours:

Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm to 12:00am. Friday, 2:00pm to 6:00pm

Pay Rate:

$46 per hour ($39 base + $3.00 shift premium + $4.00 foreperson premium)

Summary:



The Lead Hand at Miller Waste Systems oversees afternoon shift technicians, ensuring all vehicle maintenance and repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and safety standards. This role involves supervising daily operations, mentoring apprentices, coordinating repair schedules, and maintaining accurate records to support smooth fleet operations.



Responsibilities:



In the position of Lead Hand. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Must adhere to Miller Waste System safety protocols and must be familiar with occupational Health & Safety Act. Supervise afternoon shift technicians and ensure that all afternoon shift work is performed safely, cost effectively and in a timely manner. Complete required record keeping associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times. Review, plan and schedule work as required. Mentor apprentice technicians and provide training to complete their apprenticeship program. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures. Ensure shop equipment and tools are kept in a safe operating condition. Ensure that the shop and surrounding grounds are clean and organized at all times during the shift. You will be required to repair waste vehicles and trucks, including hydraulics and electrical as well as shop maintenance. You will be required to conduct vehicle maintenance according to established MWS policies and procedures. Liaise with Operations Supervisors and drivers in a professional and team-oriented manner. Process timecards and work orders as necessary.

Requirements:



Successful candidates must possess and keep valid their licenses including a valid Journeyperson Certificate. Must have at least a valid Driver's Licence. Provide own tools and willingness to acquire tools as required for jobs. Red Seal is preferred but not required. You will have ability to diagnose and rectify faults, as well as experience in repairing hydraulic and electrical systems. Strong technical knowledge of equipment is a must. You must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must have strong self-management and organizational skills. Your ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is key as well as working in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is an asset. You must be available to work late when behind schedule, as well you may be required to work weekends and holidays.
