Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across our facilities, including two locations that operate as shelters for seniors. This role is essential in ensuring a clean, healthy, and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and clients, while respecting the dignity, privacy, and lived experiences of those we serve. The ideal candidate will have experience in cleaning and facilities maintenance, strong attention to detail, and a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to their work. Responsibilities

Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal to maintain cleanliness standards. Conduct commercial cleaning tasks such as restroom sanitation, floor care, window washing, and surface disinfecting. Provide custodial services in senior shelter environments with a strong emphasis on privacy, discretion, and respect for personal spaces and belongings. Follow trauma-informed practices by working calmly, respectfully, and with awareness of how cleaning activities may impact vulnerable individuals. Assist with facilities maintenance activities including minor repairs, light maintenance tasks, and reporting larger issues to management. Ensure all cleaning supplies and equipment are used safely, efficiently, and stored properly. Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents or injuries during cleaning and maintenance activities. Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency. Support special cleaning projects or deep-cleaning initiatives as needed.

Experience

Prior experience in commercial cleaning or custodial services is preferred but not required; training will be provided for the right candidate. Experience working in shelters, supportive housing, healthcare, or senior-focused environments is considered an asset. Knowledge of facilities maintenance practices is a plus. Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, or pressure washers is advantageous. Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Physical stamina to perform cleaning duties that may include lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Pay: $16.00 per hour
