Job Description

The position of Custodian is an integral part of the overall operation of Orchard Valley United Church. The Custodian works in the cleaning and care of the Church facility. Work involves maintaining the premises in a clean and orderly condition and performing minor repairs, as required.

The Custodian reports directly to the Ministry & Personnel Committee and works with the Property Committee.

Duties include:

Sweeping Mopping Vacuuming Polishing furniture Cleaning washrooms Cleaning windows, lights, Lawn care and maintenance Entryway snow and Ice removal Routine preventative maintenance Maintaining Fire Safety equipment Assuring Building security, when not in use
Work also involves opening and closing of building[s), overseeing, and monitoring building operations in person.

Duties also include set up for special functions held at the Church.

Example: In preparation for YOGA most Monday mornings, the chairs in the sanctuary need to be unhooked and moved to the perimeter of the room, then replaced back in position once YOGA is over.

Adherence to health, safety and security standards at all times is essential.

Attendance at Staff meetings when called.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and with others Demonstrated ability to follow instructions Ability to operate required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner Repeated and coordinated use of arms, hands, wrists, and fingers to use hand held tools Physical strength and stamina: ability to safely lift, carry, hold, push/pull up to 50 lbs Willingness to work flexible hours (ifnecessary), including occasional weekends and evenings

Requirements

This is a part-time, salaried position with flexible working hours. The successful candidate wil be required to submit a PoliceRecords Check (PRC) and a Child Abuse Registry Check.
