Curriculum Developer
Digital Content Creation for Indigenous Creators
(January 25, 2023 \xe2\x80\x93 April 30, 2023)

Location: Regina and remote Manager: Shannon Avison
Position Description:

  • Develop outline of learning objectives for Community Radio 1 (due Jan. 31),
  • Review interviews from the Inspirit-funded research project with Indigenous language radio broadcasters (Jan. 31),
  • Research and develop lecture outlines and assignments regarding the historical, current, and future landscape of broadcasting policy in Canada (due Feb. 17),
  • Research and develop lecture outlines and assignments regarding the historical, current, and future landscape of spectrum management in Canada (Feb. 24),
  • Develop the course content within university academic guidelines,
  • Conduct follow-up interviews with end-users, including individuals currently employed at Indigenous radio stations/networks across Canada (discussion with Shannon Feb. 10),
  • Prepare course outlines and final exams/projects,
  • Create assignments and marking rubrics,
  • Research and develop lecture outlines and assignments regarding the historical current and future landscape of Indigenous community and network radio,
  • Develop lessons, activities, and assignments for introducing students to the roles, responsibilities and processes of Industry Canada and Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications (CRTC),
  • Develop list of potential guest lecturers who are subject area experts,
  • Prepare course outlines and final exams/projects,
  • Create assignments and marking rubrics,
  • Work with FNUniv Instructional designer to create a UR Course website for the INCA 291AC class, including all the learning materials, lecture notes, readings, grading matrixes, etc. (March 31),
  • Develop strategies for creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students\xe2\x80\x99 diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles,
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning,
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles,
  • Develop list of materials for class and work with library to ensure that we have appropriate copyright and permissions (March 31),
  • Meeting bi-weekly with Shannon Avison to answer questions and keep track of the work,
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning,
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles,
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process,
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques. Providing individual tutoring and academic counselling and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses, and
  • Include relevant material with appropriate copyright and permissions.



Qualifications:
  • Superior communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Lived Indigenous experience.
  • Candidates who have experience working within Indigenous contexts and/or sincere, demonstrable interest in contributing to the Indigenization of curricula are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience setting up and managing low power FM, Type A/B Native and community radio stations, including licensing, reporting, programming, fund-raising, community engagement, equipment management, managing employees and volunteers, working with a board, sales and marketing, promotions, audio and video production
  • Experience working in commercial radio.
Salary: Compensation in the form of a Sessional Academic Staff Member (SASM) II stipend - full rate.

On-Site Course


Offered synchronously in person in a designated classroom on scheduled days and times



Hybrid Course


Offered synchronously in person in a designated classroom on scheduled days and times. The instructor will attend every lecture in person. However, students will register in one of these two sections:
a) Hybrid \xe2\x80\x93 on-site classroom: students will attend in person in a designated classroom on scheduled days and times
b) Hybrid \xe2\x80\x93 remote: students will attend remotely on Zoom on scheduled days and times



Hyflex Course


Courses are offered synchronously in person in a designated classroom on specific days and times. The instructor will attend every lecture in person. However, students can attend on-site or attend remotely on Zoom with a level of flexibility on how they would like to participate each week. These class sections are designated as Hyflex online/on-site flexible.



Remotely


Courses are offered synchronously on Zoom on scheduled days and times. These courses are designated Remote Learning Delivery Spec.



On-Line (Web)


Courses do not have scheduled meeting times.



Video-Conferenced Course


This is a class section that is offered at an off-site location (Regional Colleges and First Nations University of Canada campuses) and uses video conference technology to deliver the course to multiple locations.



Off-Campus


(Outside Regina \xe2\x80\x93 Community-Based programs) This course is delivered at an off-campus location (outside of Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert).
