Curling Club Manager

Job Description

The curling club manager supports an active, working board, with overseeing day-to-day operations of the club. The Manager works with, and reports to, the Club's Board of Directors through the President, who are ultimately responsible for oversight on all areas of club operations and business management.

The scale and scope of the position will vary from year to year, as budget allows. Expectations will be managed accordingly. This is a year-round position, with variable hours, which are driven by the requirements of the activity at hand (daytime, evenings, or weekends). Heavier lifting (more time investment) is expected during the curling season, and lighter hours during the summer. The Manager will have some ability to manage their hours and schedule, while also needing to maintain their commitments across seasonal hours.

Duties & Responsibilities



Facilities Management



Working with the House and Ice Chair to assume many of the facility operations and management duties. This may include ensuring the superior condition of the facilities, monitoring buildings systems, ensuring security of Club property, ensuring availability of regular supplies, overseeing contractors and negotiating service contracts when necessary, and other related administrative tasks.

Bar Management



Working with the Bar Chair to assume many of the bar management duties. This may include training and overseeing all paid and volunteer bar staff, inventory procurement and management, maintenance of supply contracts and purchasing agreements, maintenance of all bar equipment, and other related administrative tasks.

Rental Coordination



Working with the Rentals Coordinator to assume duties related to summer rental activities and leagues. This may include overseeing in-house pickleball league administration and set-up, as well as rental pickleball leagues. For summer lounge rentals duties would include negotiating rental contracts, setting-up the bar when required, ensuring inventory levels and organizing other summer activities.

Member Engagement



The Club Manager will be the main face or representative of City View Curling Club.

They will engage & interact with members on a regular basis, to ensure a quality membership experience at our club. The role is an important the liaison between members and the board of directors, which will require regular updates to the President.

Other



A reasonable scope of work, selected from activities listed, and other duties as required in the context of the role, will be agreed between the President and Club Manager, in line with the funds available in the annual budget.

As budget allows, the role will expand to possibly include additional duties such as working with the Ice Chair and/or ice maker to overseeing ice management; working with the Draw Chair to oversee league and ice schedules; working with the Club Secretary to aid in club communications including member newsletters; social media and/or website duties; working with the Advertising Coordinator and existing club advertisers and helping to recruit new advertisers and sponsors; working with the Membership Coordinator and 0thers in all areas of member engagement; marketing the club for possible summer revenue streams; etc.

Skills and Qualifications



Training/Experience



Minimum: High School Diploma. Post-secondary education and/or equivalent experience in club, hospitality, or operations management, an asset Strong communication and interpersonal skills in English. Basic knowledge of office tools such as Google Workspace, and other digital tools Service oriented; and ability to work independently and set priorities. Excellent organizational abilities. Ability to work independently and adapt to a changing workload. Smart Serve certification (or willingness/ability to obtain). Available to work irregular hours occasionally. Physical ability to lift, carry and move, without assistance, up to 40 lbs. Demonstrated organizational and multitasking abilities. Collaborative Flexible Member-Focused
The following qualifications are an asset:

Experience working in a curling club or sport/recreation facility. Basic understanding of bar operations and health regulations. Experience supervising volunteers or part-time staff. Experience in event planning, marketing, or social media management. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Work Environment

Health and Safety



Work in compliance with local health and safety laws and regulations, as well as CVCCs internal policies, procedures, and safe work practices

Use, wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices as required for your role

Participate in and complete CVCC-provided training, applying what you've learned to support safe work practices

Immediately report hazards, unsafe conditions, injuries, or incidents to your manager or designated contact

Help create a healthy work environment by not condoning or participating in, and reporting as you become aware, any harassment, discrimination, gossiping or unfair treatment of anyone

Refrain from unsafe conduct or behaviour that may put yourself or others at risk

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $34,400.00-$40,000.00 per year
