The function of the Cultural Community Engagement Coordinator is to plan and facilitate community events and activities to advance cultural, social and community development.
This role requires strong coordination, communication and planning skills to ensure initiatives are effective and align with our organization goals and community interests.
Duties
Focusing on respect, recognition and sharing of Indigenous culture and values, ensuring accessibility, and accountability, the Coordinator is required to:
- Build relationships with community members, Elders and stakeholders.
- Develop action plans that align with organizational goals and community priorities.
- Develop a Program/Activity schedule.
- Develop Budgets, prepare and submit proposals and secure funding for the programs/events.
- Establish partnerships with community resources and mainstream agencies to implement programs, services and activities
- Coordinate and deliver programs, events and activities[1] based on community identified needs to address the Friendship Centre mandate.
- Foster participation and promote community connections.
- Initiate fundraising events[2].
- Develop and manage a resource and volunteer base to assist with projects, programs, events, and fundraising.
- Promote and market the organization, programs and activities.
- Evaluate outcomes.
- Establish standards and procedures for programs and activities as required.
- Participate in personnel selection and supervision as directed[3].
- Submit Statistical/Written Reports.
Hours of work will require flexibility: to include days, evenings and weekends. Duties relevant to the position may be assigned from time to time.
Expected Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices, protocols, and values.
Education/Experience in Program planning and implementation.
Experience in preparing and writing technical documents and correspondence.
Supervision skills.
Possess strong multi-tasking, planning and organizational abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Ability to foster collaboration across different sectors and community groups.
Experience with data management or tracking systems.
Experience in community engagement, event coordination, working with Indigenous cultural groups.
Ability to work in a flexible environment and work flexible hours, including days, evenings and weekends.
Knowledge of community resources.
Ability to work independently and on own initiative.
Demonstrated computer skills.
Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle is required.
Excellent Health.

[1] Current Programs/Events include, but are not limited to: National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations; Summer Day Camp Program for children; Community Christmas Gift Program; Elder Gatherings; Women's Wellness Circles; coordinating interest courses [beading, caribou hair tufting]; participating in community events [Culture Days, Bust the Winter Blues Festival].
[2] An average of 2 events coordinated per year generating a minimum of $3,000.
[3] Mainly for the Summer Day Camp Program.

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
