The Position



The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories strives to provide culturally inclusive services to diverse communities, ensuring that everyone has access to dementia education, resources, and support.

We are looking for Cultural Communities Navigator (CC Navigator) to support the South Asian Communities in Alberta by providing dementia awareness, outreach, and support services. Reporting to the Cultural Communities Coordinator, the CC Navigator, will focus on engaging and supporting individuals living with dementia and care partners from South Asian communities. This role involves outreach education and collaboration with community partners to enhance access to culturally relevant dementia services.

Verbal and written fluency in Punjabi and Hindi languages is required for this role.



The CC Navigator must collect essential information, provide information and refer in appropriate circumstances in a way that fits the unique needs of the individual. This position is responsible for coordinating referral systems and client service, delivering support and education programs within the assigned area, and building strong community and health care professional relationships.

This is a full-time term position with the possibility of extension or permanency. The Cultural Communities Navigator may require travel throughout the province on an occasional basis.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

Community Engagement and Outreach



Build relationships with South Asian community organizations, seniors' groups, and healthcare providers to raise awareness of dementia

Organize and facilitate information sessions, workshops, and support groups tailored to the South Asian community

Represent the Alzheimer Society at cultural and community events

Support Services and Navigation



Provide one-on-one support to families seeking dementia-related resources

Assist individuals in navigating healthcare services, helping them access culturally relevant dementia care

Work with the team to develop and adapt dementia education material foSouth Asian communities.

Advocacy and Education



Deliver brain health and dementia awareness sessions in both English and Punjabi/Hindi

Advocate for culturally inclusive dementia care by collaborating with community partners.

Other Responsibilities



Researching appropriate community resources and supports to meet client needs

Promoting and delivering the Society's programs and services utilizing various delivery methods

Supporting referral intake & ongoing follow up

Facilitating and participating in the delivery of standardized programs

Coordinating and facilitating support groups.

Maintaining accurate and objective client records

Assisting in raising public awareness about dementia and the way it affects families and individuals

Other duties or projects commensurate with the nature of the position.

Qualifications



Post?Secondary education in Social Work, Health Services, Human Services or related field, or related experience in a health or social service agency, or education-related function

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, and a secondary fluency in Punjabi and Hindi languages is required.

Candidates who do not meet the bilingual requirement will not be considered.



Demonstration of cultural humility and sensitivity to diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Understanding of cultural perspectives on dementia within South Asian communities is an asset

Professional designation in social work an asset

Experience in community engagement an asset, including public speaking

Familiarity with Alzheimer's disease/dementia and caregiving issues

Familiar with services and resources needed by seniors and/or persons living with disabilities

Strong interpersonal skills

Ability to remain professional and respectful in difficult and sensitive situations

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Accuracy and attention to detail, e.g., data entry and record-keeping

Recent and clear criminal record with vulnerable sector check

Valid driver`s license in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle.

Working conditions
