Role
The Canal Services Technician - Mechanical is responsible to execute activities related to the passage of vessels through a structure, complete regular maintenance tasks and respond to breakdowns, in order to ensure the safe, secure and efficient transit of vessels.
Responsibilities

  • Complete and record work orders related to maintenance and respond to breakdowns to minimize disruption to navigation.
  • Perform all activities related to the passage of vessels and structures, including operating lock and bridge equipment, vessel mooring & monitoring, and monitoring water levels.
  • Record and maintain transit data in electronic systems.
  • Perform all tasks related to general housekeeping and civil work of the lock areas.
  • Perform all activities related to security of the operational facilities, in compliance with the applicable security requirements.
  • Apply safe work methods in compliance with corporate safety programs and applicable legislation.

Experience and knowledge
  • Two (2) to five (5) years relevant experience in an industrial environment maintaining mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the installation, repair, modification, adjustment and lubrication of machinery and equipment using various tools and measurement instruments.
  • Knowledge of applicable procedures, standards and safe work practices related to the operation and maintenance of lock and bridge controls.
Education
  • Diplame d'etudes professionnelles - DEP (Quebec) OR completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent (ON) in Industrial Mechanics or related field
Certifications
  • Certificate of Qualification as Millwright in Ontario or Quebec(CCQ)
  • Completion of Canal Structures Operator training program
  • Radio Restricted Operators Certificate (Maritime)
  • Valid Class G (ON) or Class 5 (QC) driver's license and insurable driving record
Projected start date: 10/17/2022

Hours of work: According to training schedule

Salary: As per Internship Agreement for Canal Service Technician (see table)
