Job Description

Fundy Region Transition House is a not-for-profit organization with an established safe and secure reputation offering services to women and their children, living with family violence, since 1982.

Job purpose

The Crisis Intervener provides support, comfort, and assists with case management to clients.

Primary duties and responsibilities

Monitor and respond to the 24/7 telephone crisis hotline, appraise clients' need and eligibility for specific services, and provide crisis intervention support.

Provide positive, non-judgemental interactions and build rapport with residents.

Ensure the safety and security of staff and residents at all times.

Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the residents and shelter.

Liaise with community, social service agencies, and health care providers to offer support to clients.

Distribute and record medications, care of house pets (cats), and general housekeeping duties.

May be required to prepare or assist in meal preparation.

Some administrative duties required.

Participate in training as required.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Human Service Certificate or equivalent experience. Previous training in Counselling, Psychology, Suicide Intervention, Child Development and other relatable skills would be an asset.

Competencies

The Crisis Intervener must be capable of working under pressure. They must understand the dynamics of abuse and domestic violence, and use that understanding to assist abused woman and children in an appropriate and acceptable manner. Critical thinking skills and emotional intelligence are of upmost importance.

Additional necessary skills include:

Communication skills (listening, speaking and writing)

Able to work in a team environment and independently

Problem solving

Decision making

Planning and organizing

Computer literate

Carrying and lifting up to 20 lbs.

Able to navigate stairs multiple times per shift

The successful candidate will be subject to a 6 month probationary period.

Applicants must be available to work days, evenings, nights and weekends.

*A negative result from both a criminal record check and the Department of Social Development record check is required prior to employment with Fundy Region Transition House.
