Job Summary
The Crisis Intervener (CI) plays a vital role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for women and children residing at Crossroads for Women (CFW). Aligned with our mission, to help women and children transition from crisis to empowerment through safe housing, education, and individualized support, this position provides frontline services including emotional support, crisis intervention, goal planning, advocacy, safety planning, and access to resources and referrals.
As a core member of our residential team, the CI contributes to the physical and emotional safety of the house, supports residents in their personal growth, and upholds the organization's values of respect, dignity, and equity.
Responsibilities
Conduct intake interviews, screen prospective residents, and assist with orientation and house tours.
Provide ongoing emotional support, goal-setting, and problem-solving assistance to residents.
Support conflict resolution and foster a safe, respectful communal living environment.
Assess resident needs and collaboratively develop action and safety plans.
Offer information, referrals, and advocacy for internal and external services.
Facilitate in-house meetings and support groups.
Respond to in-house and crisis line situations with appropriate intervention and risk assessment.
Support residents and callers experiencing trauma, intimate partner/domestic violence, mental health challenges, or substance use.
Ensure house safety, cleanliness, and functionality, including light maintenance, grocery shopping, and supply management.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes, logs, client files, and statistical records.
Participate in volunteer/practicum student onboarding, supervision, and mentoring.
Shadow and support new staff alongside the House Manager.
Participate in training, team meetings, and agency events.
Ensure completion of client evaluations prior to discharge.
Liaise with external agencies and service providers.
All other front-line duties that align with supporting and empowering women and children accessing Crossroads's services.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience in crisis intervention, support work, or a combination of formal training and lived experience.
Cultural Competency: Cultural humility and respect for diversity in all forms.
Knowledge of local community resources, mental health and addiction services, and relevant legislation related to intimate partner violence.
Bilingualism in English and French (spoken and written) is preferred.
Communication: Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
Advocacy & Navigation: Trauma-informed, feminist, and anti-oppressive practice framework.
Able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Flexibility: Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
Other Requirements:
Satisfactory vulnerable sector and criminal record check.
Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
ASSIST, CPR and First Aid certification (ongoing training provided).

En tant que membre essentiel de notre equipe residentielle, l'IC contribue a la securite physique et emotionnelle de la maison, soutient les residents dans leur developpement personnel et defend les valeurs de respect, de dignite et d'equite de l'organisation.
Responsabilites
Mener des entretiens d'admission, selectionner les residents potentiels et aider a l'orientation et aux visites de la maison.
Fournir un soutien emotionnel continu, fixer des objectifs et aider les residents a resoudre leurs problemes.
Soutenir la resolution des conflits et favoriser un environnement de vie commune sur et respectueux.
Evaluer les besoins des residents et elaborer en collaboration des plans d'action et de securite.
Fournir des informations, orienter les residents vers des services internes et externes et defendre leurs interets.
Faciliter les reunions internes et les groupes de soutien.
Repondre aux situations internes et aux situations de crise par une intervention appropriee et une evaluation des risques.
Soutenir les residents et les appelants victimes de traumatismes, de violence conjugale ou domestique, de problemes de sante mentale ou de toxicomanie.
Assurer la securite, la proprete et la fonctionnalite de la maison, y compris l'entretien leger, les courses et la gestion des fournitures.
Maintenir une documentation precise et opportune, y compris les notes de cas, les journaux, les dossiers des clients et les registres statistiques.
Participer a l'accueil, a la supervision et au mentorat des benevoles et des stagiaires.
Observer et soutenir le nouveau personnel aux cotes du directeur de maison.
Participer a la formation, aux reunions d'equipe et aux evenements organises par l'agence.
Veiller a ce que les evaluations des clients soient terminees avant leur sortie.
Assurer la liaison avec les agences et les prestataires de services externes.
Toutes les autres taches de premiere ligne qui s'alignent sur le soutien et l'autonomisation des femmes et des enfants qui accedent aux services du Carrefour.
Qualifications
Formation et experience : Formation postsecondaire en travail social, en psychologie, en counseling ou dans un domaine connexe, de preference. Experience pertinente en intervention de crise, en travail de soutien ou une combinaison de formation formelle et d'experience vecue.
Competence culturelle : Humilite culturelle et respect de la diversite sous toutes ses formes.
Connaissance des ressources communautaires locales, des services de sante mentale et de toxicomanie, et de la legislation pertinente relative a la violence entre partenaires intimes.
Le bilinguisme en anglais et en francais (parle et ecrit) est prefere.
Communication : Solides competences en matiere de communication, de relations interpersonnelles et de resolution de conflits.
Defense des interets et navigation : Cadre de pratique tenant compte des traumatismes, feministe et anti-oppressif.
Capacite a respecter les limites professionnelles et la confidentialite.
Flexibilite : Capacite a travailler occasionnellement le soir ou le week-end, selon les besoins.
Autres exigences :
Verification satisfaisante du secteur vulnerable et du casier judiciaire.
Etre legalement autorise a travailler au Canada.
Certification ASSIST, RCP et premiers soins (formation continue fournie).

Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12.5 - 37.5 per week
