Course Description:
The principles of anatomy and physiology will be applied to exercise. Beginning with nutrition and the metabolic pathways that provide energy for movement, students will learn how the systems of the body respond physiologically to the demands of exercise. Students will also learn how these systems adapt to specific aerobic and anaerobic modes of training as well as the effects age and gender have on these adaptations.Course Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the student will:
  • understand how energy is created and used during sub-maximal and maximal exercise
  • state how muscles, nerves, bones and other body systems react when you exercise
  • identify how training modes (resistance, aerobic, anaerobic, and flexibility) affect the body
  • explain how exercise performance is affected by age, gender, temperature and altitude
Please see our website for further program and course details:ResponsibilitiesThe course consists of 48 hours of classroom instruction using the approved curriculum, invigilation of the final exam, design and implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures, marking and submission of final course grades. The instructor will also be required to maintain regular contact with the PFT Administration team and adhere to program policies and deadlines.Instruction:
  • Lesson preparation
  • Course delivery
  • Marking/grading
  • Course outline preparation
  • Facilitate course delivery using approved curriculum and learning materials
  • Review and revision of course assessments
Administration:
  • Marking and submission of course grades
  • Maintain regular contact with the program administrative team
  • Participate in virtual instructor meetings and individual meetings with the program coordinator as required
  • Participate in meetings and adhere to program policies and deadlines
Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in Health Science, Kinesiology or related field required
  • Completed Ph.D. is an asset
  • 3-5 years of applicable professional experience
  • Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Minimum two years of experience of instructional experience in an adult education environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset
