We're looking for a Credit Specialist III to support our Mortgage Development Centre team in Red Deer

As a Credit Specialist III you are the senior professional credit adjudicator who evaluates and approves complex applications referred from Retail Branches. As an integral team member of the Mortgage Development Center you have strong credit adjudication skills, in-depth understanding of business financial statements. You have sales experience to support you in identify onboarding relationship opportunities and approvals to increase our member wallet share. You are essentially the informal leader who is accountable for ensuring that the approved applications meet acceptable risk requirements related to prudent lending practices, corporate lending policy as well regulatory and legislative requirements. As the Credit Specialist III you will be interacting with Senior Managers; therefore, your communication skills are outstanding.

More specifically, the scope of your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor junior credit specialists
  • Build and maintain good relationships with referral sources
  • Within authorized limits, review and approve MDC submissions from referral sources for complex applications which is currently defined as self-build mortgages, business-for-self applicants, applicants with a rental portfolio exceeding 6 properties
  • Evaluate requests based on policy, and risk, ensuring approvals are within established lending guidelines.
  • Provide written approvals/recommendations as appropriate within established lending guidelines.
  • Within authorized limits or recommend authorize exceptions directly to Retail Credit without intervention form management.
  • Analyze information confidently and act accordingly based on judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Analysis of financial information, security valuations, terms, and conditions of the credit request to ensure that approved applications are appropriately structured to minimize the risk of default and loss, while supporting corporate growth goals.
  • Review and recommend changes to Corporate Lending Policies and develop/revise complex application lending guidelines to ensure lending practices remain prudent, competitive and support corporate objectives and strategies
  • Coach and guide internal sales team to ensure high quality service is provided to members in the area of retail lending and to ensure that the risk to the organization is mitigated or is within acceptable tolerance.
Requirements:

To qualify, you'll need at least the following:
  • A minimum of 5 - 10 years retail lending experience is required
  • University level finance/accounting degree or an equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience.
  • Formal training in agricultural lending practices and financial analysis (i.e. Agricultural Lenders Workshops, Agricultural Business Analysis workshops) or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience.
  • A mix of technical, sales, and leadership skills. The technical requirements include advanced credit decisioning expertise to ensure that mortgage loans are properly structured to minimize the risks of default and loan losses.
