, and we are seeking a talented Creative Writer to help shape our voice, share powerful stories, and produce high-quality content that inspires action and awareness.

Position Overview



The

Creative Writer (Volunteer)

will play a key role in developing compelling written content for The Humane Choices Foundation's blog, website, and educational materials.

This role involves writing original blog posts, rewriting and enhancing existing content, and collaborating with leadership to ensure the brand's tone, clarity, and messaging reflect professionalism, compassion, and our commitment to animal rights and humane education.

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with the ability to translate complex advocacy issues into inspiring, accessible, and emotionally resonant writing.

Key Responsibilities



Blog & Article Development



Research, write, and edit blog posts on topics related to animal rights, humane education, plant-based living, ethical choices, environmental ethics, and current issues. Produce educational content that supports awareness campaigns, youth programs, and advocacy initiatives. Ensure all blog content is accurate, well-sourced, and aligned with the organization's mission and values.

Website Content Creation & Rewriting



Rewrite and refine existing content for the Foundation's new website (currently in development). Develop clear, engaging, and professional content for pages such as: About Us Our Mission Programs Advocacy Educational Resources Donation and Volunteer pages Ensure consistent tone, voice, and terminology across all sections of the website.

Storytelling & Creative Campaign Writing



Craft compelling narratives that highlight animals, volunteers, rescuers, and real-world impact. Support the communications team with content for awareness campaigns, social media captions, event descriptions, and newsletters. Contribute to narrative frameworks for ongoing and future campaigns.

Collaboration & Editorial Process



Work closely with the Executive Director, digital team, and Social Media Manager to ensure content aligns with branding and communication goals. Participate in editorial planning sessions and monthly content calendar discussions. Accept and incorporate feedback to improve clarity, structure, and messaging.

Qualifications & Skills



Required



Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities. Ability to write clear, engaging, and emotionally compelling content. Familiarity with humane education, animal rights, vegan ethics, or social justice issues (or willingness to learn). Ability to conduct research and translate information into accessible writing. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple content pieces at once.

Preferred



Experience writing for nonprofits, blogs, journalism, or advocacy organizations. Background in English, Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing, or a related field. Experience optimizing content for web readability and SEO. Ability to adapt tone for different audiences (students, policymakers, donors, advocates).
