The Humane Choices Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization based in Ontario, Canada.
Our mission is to protect and defend the inherent rights of all animals by promoting compassion, respect, and ethical treatment.
We are currently building our new website, developing a strong brand identity, expanding our social media presence, and preparing to launch an ethical merchandise line.

To support these strategic initiatives, we are seeking a talented and passionate

Graphic Designer (Volunteer)

to create high-impact visuals that inspire action and strengthen our brand across platforms.

Position Overview



The

Graphic Designer (Volunteer)

will create visually compelling graphics that elevate The Humane Choices Foundation's mission, support advocacy campaigns, strengthen brand recognition, and enhance donor and volunteer engagement.

This role involves designing:

Social media content Brand identity elements Campaign visuals Website assets Educational infographics Ethical merchandise and apparel (t-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, stickers, etc.)
The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and deeply aligned with compassionate design values.

Key Responsibilities



Social Media & Digital Content



Create visually striking graphics for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other platforms. Develop templates for recurring content such as quotes, advocacy messages, educational posts, and campaign announcements. Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to support content calendars and storytelling initiatives. Ensure that all digital content aligns with the organization's tone, mission, and visual identity.

Brand Identity Development



Support the development and refinement of the Foundation's brand style guide (colors, typography, voice, design elements). Ensure consistency across all platforms, publications, and campaigns. Provide input on logo usage, brand assets, and visual standards for internal and external communications.

Merchandise & Ethical Apparel Design



Design graphics for branded clothing and merchandise including t-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, stickers, notebooks, and accessories. Collaborate with the E-Commerce Manager to prepare print-ready files and coordinate with ethical, cruelty-free suppliers. Explore design concepts that align with advocacy messaging and humane education values. Ensure merchandise designs are ethical, professional, and aligned with the Foundation's brand and mission.

Website & Educational Materials



Create website banners, icons, illustrations, and visual elements for the new website currently in development. Design brochures, flyers, infographics, and other educational resources to support outreach and advocacy campaigns. Support digital campaigns, presentations, and fundraising materials with creative assets.

Team Collaboration



Work closely with the Communications, Youth Programs, and Digital Infrastructure teams to support multi-department initiatives. Participate in virtual design meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project planning discussions. Maintain organized files and ensure all artwork assets are properly documented.

Qualifications & Skills



Required



Strong skills in graphic design using Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar tools. Ability to create visually engaging content for social media and digital platforms. Understanding of branding principles, typography, color theory, and composition. Creativity, attention to detail, and a strong sense of visual storytelling. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple design requests. Passion for animal rights, humane education, or ethical advocacy.

Preferred



Experience designing merchandise for e-commerce or nonprofit campaigns. Familiarity with print production requirements (bleed, DPI, CMYK vs RGB). Experience with brand development or visual identity systems. Prior work experience with nonprofits or advocacy organizations.
