THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CPA with public practice accounting experience to join our team as a Financial Consultant. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, taxation, and financial reporting, with experience gained in a public practice environment.
While prior SR&ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) experience is an asset, it is not required--we will provide training in this specialized area.
This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits, including a corporate medical/dental plan.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare corporate tax returns (T2) and support personal tax filings as needed.
Prepare and review financial statements, including audits, review engagements, and compilation (Notice to Reader).
Collaborate with clients to analyze financial data and identify eligible expenses for tax credits, including SR&ED.
Conduct client interviews to gather financial and project-related information.
Work with technical consultants and internal teams to understand client projects and streamline reporting and claim processes.
Ensure compliance with CRA guidelines and filing requirements.
Provide ongoing advisory support to clients on accounting and financial best practices.
Manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Designation:
CPA designation (required).
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience (required):
Public practice accounting firm experience, specifically Public Tax Practice (Audit or Enterprise teams are a plus, but Public Tax Practice is a must).
Corporate or personal tax filing experience.
Experience with audit, review engagement, or compilation/Notice to Reader preparation.
Financial statement preparation.
Experience (asset):
Banking/Finance or CRA experience.
SR&ED experience (training provided).
Technical Knowledge / Key Programs:
T2 programs (TaxPrep, TaxCycle, Profile, Cantax).
Strong Excel and MS Office Suite skills.
Bookkeeping systems familiarity is an asset.
Other Skills:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
