Counsellor (Inuit Day Counselling)

Full-time Term to March 31, 2026



It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.



The Counselling Position works in partnership with all of TI's programs, providing individual and group counselling services to a wide range of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) clients. The incumbent also works with external stakeholders to provide general counselling and community supports.



Responsibilities:



Utilize Inuit Qaujimajatuqanqit principles and other Inuit traditional teachings for healing and counselling purposes. Knowledge of Inuit History and Culture. Work part of an interdisciplinary team that has a working knowledge of addiction, trauma, and anger management. The counsellor position will be required to deliver services both individually and within a group format. Maintain case notes, conduct assessments, and administrative work related to the counselling position. Make referrals when required. Other duties may be assigned as related to this position.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices.



Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. Clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Ability to speak Inuktitut and availability to work evening and weekend is preferred.



Community College in Social Service Diploma, Community Service Worker, Counselling is preferred. Undergraduate Degree in Social Work or Counselling is preferred.



Three Years experience in a helping profession is required. Two years experience as Counsellor is required.



Motivational Interviewing and the stages of change, understanding and ability to work with trauma and addiction, Group Facilitation, ability to collaborate and highly effective communicator.



Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $56,000 to $59,000 TI provides paid sickness, personal and family sickness leave days, and a 24/7 confidential Employee and Family Assistance Plan. Vacation (earn 3 weeks/year).
