Job Title Counsel


















What is the opportunity? As Counsel in the Canadian Banking Products and Services Team at RBC you will have the exciting opportunity to provide legal advice and support to the Canadian Banking (CB) Business Financial Services business group, in respect of strategic partnerships, product development relating to lending and deposit products and services, transactional advice on cash management products and related operational processes, and advising on numerous and varied legal risk issues. What will you do?

  • Support the goals of the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Banking & Enterprise Services and the Assistant General Counsel, CB Products & Services in achieving the business/operations, strategic priorities and operational performance goals of the Law Group.
  • Identify, assess and manage legal, reputational and regulatory risks relating to Canadian Banking Business Financial Services such as: lending products, deposit products, carry loans and capital loans, including related operational processes.
  • Participate in projects and risk assessments for the development of new products and services. Collaborate with Senior Counsel, partner with business units regarding product development and amendments to existing products and processes.
  • Provide sound, creative, cost‑effective legal advice to the business partners on a variety of matters including relevant underlying Canadian Banking Business Financing Services product documents.
What do you need to succeed? Must-have
  • 2+ years of experience in banking law
  • In‑depth knowledge of Canadian Banking, lending and contract law.
  • Demonstrated ability to triage and assess situations and determine the appropriate escalation actions.
  • LLB, called to the Bar of a Canadian province, membership in good standing in applicable law society or bar association.
  • Experience providing support and coordinating legal files with the ability to manage contentious issues.
Nice-to-have
  • 1 year of in‑house counsel experience.
  • Working knowledge of French
