Salary Range: $73,482 to $91,853 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits)

Location: 10 Peel Center Drive, Brampton
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week


Legal Services provides high quality responsive legal services to the Regional Corporation including Regional Council, its executives and officers and program managers and to related boards and agencies including Peel Living and The Peel Police Services Board.
This role will assist the Legal Services Division in all aspects of its work predominantly related to corporate/commercial matters.

What you will do in this role:
  • Review, interpret and apply legislation with an emphasis on statues and regulations affecting corporate and commercial law.
  • Independently draft and prepare routine legal documents and agreements.
  • Assist with the coordination and completion of complex municipal contracts.
  • Provide corporate legal support to the Regional Corporation and to related boards and agencies.
  • Conduct, review and interpret online corporate searches.
  • Conduct, review and interpret Personal Property Security Act (PPSA) searches related to commercial transactions.
  • Prepare financing statements and perform PPSA registrations related to commercial transactions.
  • Perform business name searches and registrations.
  • Review, analyze, and advise clients on contract assignments and other external corporate restructuring issues impacting corporate contracts, and any required contractual consent processes.
  • Prepare all documentation required for commercial transaction closings.
  • Liaise with internal and external parties and their legal counsel on legal matters and contract negotiation issues.
  • Remain current with any changes in corporate law.
  • Provide other support requirements of Senior Legal Counsel \xe2\x80\x93 Manager, Senior Legal Counsel, and Legal Counsel, as required.



What the role requires:
  • Associate Member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) or have been granted a law clerk certificate/diploma or the equivalent thereof by an Ontario educational institution approved by ILCO.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a law clerk in a corporate/commercial environment. Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of corporate law principles and governing statutes.
  • Knowledge of legal principles and their applications.
  • Independently manages, coordinates, organizes, and maintain control of voluminous and complex legal documentation.

  • Ability to locate and cite legislation and use legal reference books and online materials.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze all relevant legal documents and materials.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to produce accurate, dependable results in a deadline-oriented, multitasking environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external parties and their legal counsel.

Work Mode & Job Location:
In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Center Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
