Corn Product Design Lead

As the Corn Product Design Lead, you will provide strategic, technical, and people leadership to the teams responsible for the design, selection and advancement of products that fuel corn business markets globally. In addition to product design, you will have a core focus on collaboration and leadership of global corn germplasm development and rapid utilization, genomic selection, phenotypic selection, innovation in breeding methodologies and analytic. This role will provide ample opportunity to partner with cross-functional internal Bayer stakeholders to deliver the Crop Science Commercial Long-Range Plan (LRP). You will report to the Head of Corn Product Design.

What you will do:

  • Develop and implement people, product and technical strategies which incorporate the work of the current 35 breeding programs, utilizing germplasm from over 40 countries to develop industry leading products for all early temperate corn businesses globally;
  • Deliver improved data and germplasm assets for direct use in 14 countries and indirect use in 76 countries Key leader of new design innovations and new potential products that enable and impact key business strategies such as sustainability, short statured corn, outcome based pricing (OBP), digital agriculture, and carbon markets;
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative breeding strategies and digital technologies leading to significant product performance improvement through accelerated global germplasm usage, faster time to commercialization and utilization of key data assets;
  • Ensure alignment of breeding targets, product concepts, testing strategies and data-driven design with Product Development and commercial pipelines globally Ensure alignment of seed and resource needs and usage with partners in Trait and Pipeline Delivery Key contributor to Product Design strategies for corn and across crops;
  • Ensure employee development for 7-10 direct reports, including growth opportunities for key high potential individuals and senior scientists, strong succession, and change management efforts to prepare for future transformation within the function and workforce
  • Fiscally responsible for capital and budgetary oversight and for care and maintenance of company assets for over 1M of direct budget;
  • Drive HS&E, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights focus and culture in the region;
  • Lead and contribute to Global Breeding strategies and LRP. Ensuring that these goals and deliverables are aligned with high level functional goals and commercial goals.
Who you are:

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science or related fields with 8+ years of related experience OR MS degree with 10+ years of related experience;
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams with demonstrated leadership effectiveness in driving technical strategy, innovation and developing people;
  • Strong knowledge of advanced breeding technologies, advanced analytics and information technologies, genomics and/or quantitative genetics with a proven track record of driving innovation;
  • Strong ability in collaborating and building cross-functional partnerships to solve business or technical problems.
