Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Core Network Engineering and Operations, the Core Network Engineer will be part of the team responsible for Eastlink's mobile core infrastructure. The incumbent will be working collaboratively, both within the team and with other departments, to deliver on projects, to ensure the operation of existing systems, and to participate in design of future systems and technologies.

Supporting a broad range of technologies, the candidate will need to have a high aptitude for self-learning, where research is often required. The role is that of a self-starter with good troubleshooting skills, excellent time-management skills, who thrives in collaborative environments and can handle tight timelines with high quality expectations. Some after-hours maintenance work, occasionally in our datacenters, will be required from time-to-time, as will participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2-3 years' work experience in Telecom/ICT related field.
• Background relating to mobile core networks or telecom signaling protocols, particularly in EPC, IMS and 5GC architectures, is desired.
• IP networking background desired. Certifications such as CCNA are an asset.
• Scripting/Programming background desired. Familiarity with node.js or Javascript is an asset.
• VoIP background desired. Any experience with SIP is an asset.
• Any experience maintaining DNS systems (eg: Bind) is an asset.
• Working knowledge of packet analyzers such as Wireshark is desired.
• Web development background is an asset.
• Any experience with cloud systems such as Openstack, or containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes, is an asset.

The role is that of a self-starter with good logic and troubleshooting skills who is adept at self-learning and has a high capacity for reading dry, technical whitepapers. Also includes excellent time-management skills, where this person thrives in collaborative environments and can handle tight timelines with high quality of work expectations.
