Your Opportunity:

Edmonton Zone Medical Affairs is responsible for supporting and managing AHS Medical Staff workforce. Reporting to the Manager, Physician Resources, the Coordinator is responsible and accountable for managing physician workforce planning, recruitment and facilitating recruitment related processes for AHS Clinical Departments. The Coordinator is a liaison for related issues between AHS and the Medical Staff member/department, Medical Affairs staff, or other internal and external stakeholders and will be looked to as an expert on their department. A broad understanding of a complex health care system as well as an overall understanding of AHS operational processes and requirements is integral to this position. Strong customer service skills, discretion, and attention to detail are essential, as is an ability to link broader health care and AHS issues and initiatives to the Coordinator\xe2\x80\x99s business. The incumbent works within a team environment, understanding the purpose and goals of the team and its members, and has the ability to bring forward ideas. Using experience and knowledge, the incumbent is expected to work independently, exercising excellent and appropriate decisions.

Description:

The primary focus is to understand, lead and support the workforce needs of the clinical department by: Engaging and collaborating with Medical Staff, medical leaders, internal stakeholders (e.g., zone and provincial MA teams, clinical operations, Finance, Legal), and external stakeholders (e.g., Covenant Health, University of Alberta, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Demonstrate expertise in workforce planning and recruitment, including development of innovation approaches to address system issues with sustainable solutions. Researching and understanding care delivery and remuneration, articulating deliverables and metrics, and bridging operational needs with Medical Staff needs. Understand and apply AHS Finance, Human Resources, and Medical Staff policies, procedures, and bylaws. Apply strategic thinking: risk assessment, analysis of program and project issues, and development of options, strategies, and implementation plans. Complete small-scale projects, defining objectives, scope, required resources, dependencies, timelines, and outcomes. Utilize timely and effective written and verbal communication of all portfolio areas including briefing notes, correspondence, and leading meetings. Employ nimbleness to adjust to changing priorities and timelines.

Required Qualifications: The candidate will have: An undergraduate degree in Health Services Administration, Business, Economics, Arts/Sciences, Nursing, or other equivalent preparation. At least 3-5 years\' experience in Physician Services or Health Services provider environment. Superior skills in communication, analysis, critical and creative thinking, and facilitation. Knowledge/expertise in program planning & project management (theories, principles, practices and processes). Understanding of physician recruitment policies and strategies, including various immigration practices and policies relating to physicians. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
Awareness of Medical Affairs, AHS, and broader scope political considerations, events, initiatives, and priorities. Familiarity with AHS Finance, Human Resources, and Medical Staff policies, procedures, and bylaws.
