Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the Coordinator, Indigenous Initiatives will develop strategies that maximize outreach to students. They will be responsible to advise Indigenous students and provide transition support.
The Coordinator will build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance.
The Coordinator will plan and implement components of programs and activities and will be responsible to conduct detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes, which will inform program planning activities.
The Coordinator will also facilitate educational workshops and seminars and develop and implement community engagement strategies and plans.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
Promoting experiential learning opportunities
Advising Indigenous students on culturally specific issues, financial, academic, transition support and other issues
Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress
Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Indigenous Studies, Kinesiology and Physical Education, Social Work, Health Education, Sociology of Sport, Diaspora Studies, Equity Studies, or Physical Cultural Studies or equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience
Minimum four years experience in planning, implementing, promoting, and delivering, Indigenous focused programs and events, preferably in connection to movement, physical activity and sports
Minimum two years of demonstrated experience developing and implementing awareness building sessions, workshops, training on Indigenous history and experience in Canada
Demonstrated experience in the development of sustainable partnerships with internal and external community partners and a broad range of stakeholders
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion
Strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Strong computer competencies with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Assets (Nonessential):
Experience with facility booking software, including the ability to input and generate reports using the Faculty's program registration system (Fusion), an asset
Experience working with instructors and coaches is an asset
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodologies for evaluation an asset
Understanding of adult learning styles and educational theory around learning outcomes an asset
