Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT)

is a non-profit corporation that brings together the province's most sophisticated law enforcement resources to investigate serious and organized crime. ALERT is comprised of personnel from municipal police agencies, RCMP, and civilian staff that work together on elite teams throughout Alberta focusing on organized crime, human trafficking, auto crimes and child exploitation.

ALERT is looking to hire

one (1) full-time, Safety Network Coordinator - Indigenous Communities

for our Calgary office.

The

Safety Network Coordinator - Indigenous Communities

works closely with the Human Trafficking investigative team with the main goal of providing a variety of supports to victims of human trafficking. This role places particular emphasis on supporting Indigenous survivors across southern Alberta. The successful candidate will build trusted, culturally grounded relationships with Indigenous communities across southern Alberta. This work must be rooted in respect, cultural safety, and responsiveness to the unique needs and strengths of each community.

This position offers a starting salary of $71,968 with eligible increments up to 82,784 per year.

The work arrangement for this position is

in-person, on-site

(not hybrid or remote).

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:



Reporting to the S/Sgt in charge of the ALERT Human Trafficking Counter Exploitation Unit, the duties and responsibilities of the

Safety Network Coordinator - Indigenous Communities

include, but are not limited to, the following:

Direct Victim Support

Providing immediate safety planning and assistance when a victim is identified. Offering short and long-term support to victims throughout the court process. Facilitating access to shelter and other safe accommodations via partner networks.
Community Engagement

Building trusted relationships with Indigenous Nations across southern Alberta, including the Tsuut'ina Nation, Blackfoot Confederacy, Stoney Nakoda Nations, Cree and Dene First Nations, and Metis Nation of Alberta - Region 3. Ensuring culturally appropriate, respectful, and safe support to survivors. Engaging with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and local leaders in a manner rooted in local protocols and relational accountability.
Collaboration & Outreach

Working alongside law enforcement and community advocates to implement education and prevention strategies. Coordinating culturally safe safety outreach initiatives. Engaging with persons with lived experience to support peer-led efforts and survivor-informed approaches.
Administrative Support

Contributing to documentation, court-related preparation, and service coordination. Assisting with reporting, data collection, and operational planning.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:



The following qualifications are required.

Post-secondary education or relevant training in social work, support work, or a related human services field. Demonstrated knowledge of sex trafficking dynamics, including trauma bonding. Experience supporting individuals affected by sexual violence, exploitation, or trafficking. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills--written, oral, and intercultural. Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office. Deep understanding of trauma-informed practices and frameworks such as: Stages of Change; Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs; Gender-based violence response models. As this role requires some travel, the successful candidate must have a valid class 5 driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



Experience working with Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Victims Services. Experience collaborating with police and community-based advocacy teams. Familiarity with Indigenous-led or land-based support systems. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, court processes, and victim rights. Prior experience supporting Indigenous survivors of human trafficking or gender-based violence. Personal or community ties to Treaty 7 territory or Metis Nation of Alberta - Region 3.
