Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Coordinator in the Office of the Chief of Police within Halifax Regional Police. Under the general direction of the Chief of Police, the Coordinator will be responsible for providing support on a variety of business unit and corporate programs, projects and initiatives. This is a challenging and rewarding role for an analytical, innovative, and results-oriented individual. Additionally, the Coordinator provides project management, planning functions, report preparation and evaluation services for the business unit. The incumbent will also contribute strategically and operationally to the achievement of HRM\xe2\x80\x99s corporate objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates annual budget and business planning processes, collaborating with the Chief of Police, Chief\xe2\x80\x99s Office and the HRP management team.
  • Monitor\xe2\x80\x99s status of annual business plan deliverables, identifying any potential risks to achieving desired outcomes.
  • Develop and utilizes effective communication and reporting documents to ensure stakeholders and staff are well informed.
  • Manages assigned projects and coordinates all of the various activities required to complete the projects on time, within budget, in accordance with the established scope of work, and clients\xe2\x80\x99 satisfaction.
  • Acts as a liaison to support inter-business unit cooperation, facilitating and building effective working relationships to promote cross-functional teams and collaboration.
  • Participates on corporate and/or strategic committees where the mandate or work may have implications for HRP.
  • Coordinate tender and RFP preparation and evaluation related to corporate initiatives, as assigned.
  • Ensures the Chief of Police and HRP management team are regularly briefed on HRM corporate policy issues, proposed policy changes and new policy development.
  • Provides review and feedback of corporate policies to the Chief of Police and HRP management team
  • Reviews reports for Regional Council, Boards and Committees as required.
  • Prepares briefing materials for the Chief related to Council, Police Board of Commissioners, etc.
  • Assists the Chief of Police, Director, Corporate Affairs and HRP management in the provision of clear communications, directions and priorities, and clarification of roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Affairs to identify Police implications and requirements for HRM initiatives and decisions (Regional Planning, Council Focus Areas, EMT Priorities, etc.) and prepares related recommendations.
  • Participates on strategic initiative committees where the mandate or work may have implications for HRP.
  • Reviews current business practices, trend analysis, and policy development with the view of recommending service delivery improvements.
May perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field is required.
  • 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience managing administrative and technical projects/functions, with focus on results, is required.
  • Experience in business and budget planning is required.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt is an asset.
  • Experience in a police environment is an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Experience conducting research and analysis is a requirement.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or assignments under strict deadlines is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good negotiation, facilitation, team building and consensus building skills.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of HRP and HRM policies, procedures, practices, collective agreements, and other related legislation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of other HRM corporate and/or business unit policies, practices, programs and projects would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in HRM desktop software applications is a requirement.

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates being considered for the position of Coordinator must successfully meet the security clearance requirements administered by Halifax Regional Police.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, Full-time

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week

SALARY: Level 8, Non-Union, $81,810 to $112,510. Salary will commensurate with experience.

WORK LOCATION: 1975 Gottingen Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
