Our expectations

Reporting to the Director, Asset Protection - Process and Strategy, the Coordinator, Environmental Compliance (ECC) is responsible for the supporting the Advisor, Environmental Compliance in the maintenance and development of the Lowe\'s Canada Hazardous Materials and Environmental Compliance Program for all locations within Canada. Further, the ECC acts as point of contact for third-party vendors for the facilitation of hazardous waste pickups, spill management, emergency support, and PPE/supplies.

Your role
Ensure hazardous materials waste pickup and disposal, emergency spill management and response, and that all Lowe\'s Canada locations have proper supplies (e.g., storage, PPE, signage)
Work with business leaders and the Asset Protection and Safety team to facilitate invoice payments for services rendered
Develop patterns and trends using analytics to help develop recommendations for waste and cost-reduction strategies
Assist in the development, enhancement, implementation, and maintenance of hazmat/environmental programs and policies to ensure compliance with government regulations and to resolve related issues as they arise from stores, distribution centres, and corporate locations
Understand and address provincial- and federal-level hazardous materials and environmental compliance regulations
Work/partner with various teams within the organization including: Asset Protection and Safety, Legal, Merchandising, Facilities, Engineering and Construction, Real Estate, Quality Assurance, Public Relations, Supply Chain, and Store Communications to address issues and ensure company compliance with policies and procedures as well as government regulations
Work with hazardous waste disposal vendors to coordinate hazardous waste disposal program for all stores, distribution centres, and corporate locations and ensure program compliance
Research, develop, and implement program issues and enhancements
Resolve vendor service issues
Help to develop compliance reporting metrics
Process (on an annual basis) hazmat, fire, and environmental related permit and licence fees as well as associated paperwork that require processing and payment
Coordinate emergency spill response throughout Canada (partnership with third-party vendor); this includes corporate facilities (stores, distribution centres, and corporate locations) as well as any spill that occurs in \'public\' (e.g., roadways, worksites)
Ensure regulatory compliance with any required paperwork, notifications, notices, or violations relating to waste or spills; this includes proactive inspections or visits from the Ministry of Environment
Review and monitor hazardous waste generation rates for all stores and distribution centres to confirm compliance with regulatory guidelines; track and make adjustments as necessary
Run weekly and monthly reports to identify and classify newly hazmat on-boarded items
Work with the Item Set up team and applicable vendors directly to notify and instruct them on their responsibility to enter their hazmat item attributes into applicable data portals
The qualifications we are looking for
Bachelor\'s degree and/or equivalent environmental compliance, hazardous waste management, or equivalent/relevant studies
3 to 5 years\' experience in a position involving health and safety, environmental compliance, or hazardous waste
Proven communication skills, both oral and written
Confidence speaking in front of a group
Ability to demonstrate leadership, resourcefulness, and initiative
