Child and Youth Coordinator

to lead and support our non-aquatic programs, including day camps. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of children and youth while fostering teamwork and engagement.


The Child and Youth Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the assigned program area, including managing staff, volunteers, and program development to ensure high-quality service and adherence to YMCA standards. This role will support program growth, participant safety, and a positive experience for both staff and members.

Essential Functions



Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and coach staff and volunteers within the program area. Ensure all necessary onboarding, orientation, and required training (e.g., Child Protection, Child Behavior Management, and Abuse Policy) are completed. Provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and on-the-spot coaching to staff and volunteers. Address performance issues as needed in collaboration with the General Manager. Maintain up-to-date tracking of certifications, awards, and performance records. Create staff and volunteer schedules and ensure adequate coverage. Handle payroll duties and ensure time is accurately recorded in the electronic database. Foster strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and members. Model professional behavior and communication with colleagues at all levels of the YMCA. Ensure volunteers act in a supportive role to the staff team. Supervise and ensure the safety of all members during programs. Monitor instructors to ensure performance meets expectations and Healthy Child Development (HCD) principles are applied in program delivery, lesson planning, and activities. Manage program schedules within an approved budget, monitor waitlists, and ensure a variety of program options are available. Address capacity issues and ensure members are informed of program or schedule changes. Ensure all required safety documentation, sign-in/out procedures, headcounts, and staff ratios are followed, and take necessary actions to maintain equipment. Ensure compliance with the Centre's emergency response procedures and ensure staff and volunteers are properly trained. Respond to safety concerns and take action to ensure a safe environment for all. Address service issues and customer feedback in a timely manner to ensure a positive member experience. Proactively resolve issues and maintain program standards. Take ownership of the program/service area to ensure safety, cleanliness, and a welcoming environment for all participants. Ensure YMCA standards are consistently followed and respond to any service challenges. Participate in branch leadership activities, including contributing to task group meetings, supporting overall branch goals, and collaborating with other teams to execute YMCA-wide initiatives. Contribute to the development of sessional and drop-in program schedules, including association-wide day camp programming, and ensure all duties are carried out as assigned by the task group. Actively work towards achieving branch annual YMCA Giving targets and support the completion of other duties to help meet branch and association goals. Consistently represent YMCA values and mission, promote healthy living, and encourage community participation in programs and services, in alignment with YMCA's Service that Shines Standards.

What You'll Need for This Job



Post secondary diploma/degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education or related field. Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR C NCCP Coaching and High Five certifications considered an asset Minimum 2 years' experience in a staff leadership role or equivalent education and experience in child and youth programming Minimum 2 years' experience working with children and youth. Works at a fast pace and responds to multiple priorities effectively. Excellent communications skills including verbal/presentation and written communication. Customer service orientation and ability to deal with customer feedback and complaints. Experience working with MS office suite (excel, word) and database systems such as Sales Force or registration software, and demonstrated ability to learn new systems and programs Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector and where Child Intervention/Enhanced Security check
