Reporting to the Manager of Public Realm, the Activations and Programming Coordinator is responsible for creating and executing innovative activations and programming that animate downtown's public spaces, attract people, and strengthen perceptions of a vibrant and welcoming downtown. This role focuses on designing and delivering year-round experiences that reflect our community, celebrate and support downtown businesses, encourage people to spend time downtown and drive economic activity.
This role works collaboratively across departments and with businesses, community groups, and other stakeholders, ensuring activations are inclusive of the people who live, work, and spend time downtown.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver activations and programming that animate downtown's public spaces, strengthen community connection, and foster positive experiences downtown.
Collaborate across departments and execute activations that complement Public Realm projects and align with organizational priorities.
Work closely with downtown businesses to identify opportunities for activations that support member success and visibility.
Coordinate logistics including permits, site planning, vendor bookings, contracts, and risk management for all activations.
Be responsible for activation and programming budgets, including assisting with financial projections.
Assist with funding proposals and applications.
Track and report performance metrics such as attendance, engagement, partner participation, and alignment with strategic goals.
Provide weekly updates to the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant post-secondary education in event management, hospitality, or related discipline.
3+ years of experience in event management, community engagement or related industry.
Passion for vibrant public spaces and community connection.
Proven ability to design and deliver activations or events that engage diverse audiences.
Strong ability to manage a budget and make financial projections.
Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across internal teams and with external stakeholders.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
Excellent customer service and relationship building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Understanding of creating activations and programming to meet strategic objectives, while keeping in mind an audience's needs, inclusion and accessibility.
Creative problem-solver with the ability to adapt ideas to space, season, and audience.
Enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to understand concepts quickly, work independently, problem solve, take ownership, and manage work with a high level of attention to detail and minimal supervision.
Ability to work outside standard work hours from time to time (during busy periods or events).
Knowledge of the City of Winnipeg permits, approval processes, and procedures is considered an asset.
Knowledge of risk management best practices is an asset.
Knowledge of CMS, social media platforms, webinars and virtual events is an asset.
A Class 5 driver's license is considered an asset.
