Job Description

Job purpose:



The cooks are responsible for the production of all prepared foods that are sold at The Sweet Potato. Cooks are required to participate in creating delicious, attractive products and maintaining the department retail floor areas, while participating in maintenance of the department.

Responsibilities:



The following is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities of this role. The tasks and time spent performing each task may vary as business needs require. The Sweet Potato maintains the right to modify job duties and responsibilities at its discretion.

Food Preparation



Prepare consistent and high quality offerings that meet quality standards. Ensure that production schedules are being completed in a timely manner. Ensure that the prepared foods fridge is stocked fully to give a feeling of abundance. Ensure that all products are in sellable condition and meet quality standards. Ensure that waste & kitchen transfers are being recorded in accordance with department policy. Oversee proper rotation and dating of prepared food items to ensure freshness.

Department Maintenance



Ensures that department signage is put up and taken down as needed. Ensure kitchen, case and food storage areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition meeting Department and Toronto Public Health Department Standards. Ensure proper rotation, storage, and labelling protocols for all kitchen products and ingredients. Ensure that unsellable items are properly recorded and disposed of. Maintain department equipment in working order; Advise Kitchen Manager of equipment repair and/or replacement needs. Participate in departmental and store deep cleans as requested.

Customer Service



Knows and adheres to The Sweet Potato's expectations for external and internal customer service as outlined in Employee Handbook. Offer product samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner. Recognize and act on opportunities to make a customer's day or to make it right with complaints. Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.

Proficiencies:



Knife skills Knowledge of proper operation of kitchen equipment, including knife skills, small/large appliances Detail-oriented; strong initiative and follow-through; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to set priorities; solid judgment

Education/Experience:



2+ years experience working in a commercial kitchen environment

Working Conditions



Indoor commercial production kitchen environment, lifting up to 50 lbs Active work environment 100% of time Hot and cold environments
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
