Job Summary


We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for African food and a commitment to delivering high-quality meals in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in meal preparation, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to perfection while adhering to food safety standards.

Duties



The cook will be able to prepare and cook a variety of African foods, such as jollof rice, fried rice, egusi soup,oha soup, afang, eforiro/vegetable soup, amala, gbegiri, buka stew, pounded yam, suya,fufu, and more. Prepare fresh items for African cooking, such as meats, fishes, vegetables, spices, and herbs, by properly cleaning, chopping, and preparing them. Utilize a variety of cooking methods including grilling, frying, steaming, braising, and slow cooking to achieve authentic African flavors. Create unique spice blends and sauces with a deep understanding of African spices and flavor profiles. Arrange dishes aesthetically to highlight the visual appeal of African cuisine. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, following proper food handling and sanitation practices. Proven experience in a professional kitchen, with a strong focus on African cuisine. Deep understanding of regional African dishes, ingredients, and cooking techniques. Ability to balance complex flavors and spice levels. Process food orders for both dine-in customers and online orders. Serve food to dine-in customers and maintain a clean workplace environment. Ability to stand for long periods and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Effective communication with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations. Prepare and cook a variety of meals according to established recipes and menu specifications. Ensure all food handling and preparation meets health and safety regulations. Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal service during busy periods. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including proper storage of ingredients and equipment. Assist in inventory management by tracking supplies and notifying management of shortages. Help train new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and safety protocols. Participate in menu planning and contribute creative ideas for new dishes.

Experience



Previous experience in an African restaurant is preferred. Knowledge of food handling, meal preparation, and food safety practices is essential. Familiarity with various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures in the kitchen. Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to communicate effectively with other kitchen staff.
