Job Description

Island Metis Family & Community Services Society ("IMFCSS") provides a variety of support programs to Metis children and families living in the greater Victoria area. The Island Metis Child Care Centre incorporates culturally relevant, Metis-specific programming including local Elders, Culture Keepers and community members with 41 new licensed child care spaces. Currently, IMFCSS is accepting employment applications for the following position.

Cook

(Part-Time, Permanent Position)

Qualifications:

Grade 10 education. Graduation from a program in institutional or residential quality cooking. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse families and population including: Elders, Metis community members and agencies, with a client/family-centered approach.' Valid Food Safe Level 1 certification. Three written current references from previous supervisors. Up to date immunization information. A valid Class 5 driver's license and a reliable vehicle are required. Successful candidate will be subject to a criminal record review, police record check and other reference checks.

Experience:

Strong team player. One year recent, related experience preferably working in a commercial kitchen. Strong verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Metis and other Indigenous Cultural Practices and traditions an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children in care and staff. Follow Food Safe standards for food handling, preparation, and storage. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. Assist with menu planning that reflects children's dietary needs and cultural preferences. Coordinate food ordering and inventory management as required. Support special events or cultural meals as part of the childcare program. Work collaboratively with childcare staff to ensure smooth mealtime routines.

Schedule of work is 20 hours per week, performed Monday to Friday within the hours of 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Schedule to be set in collaboration with the Child Care Manager and based on program need. Hourly rate between $26.50 per hour.
